Amsoil Signature

I know this is beat to death constantly...but I am wondering if anyone is using Amsoil in their ZL1 or SS? I do the "once a year" Amsoil signature and their filter in my 09 C6 Vette and absolutely love it. Its a guaranteed 25K oil if used properly. My 18 1LE has 4200 miles and I am wanting to swap to Amsoil...but not sure how finicky GM is about oils.

It's Dexos Gen 2 certified. G2G.

Actually looks like it's not certified, but independent tests have shown it to pass the Dexos testing.

I asked the same question here, didn’t get a for sure answer being amsoil is not dexos certified. I am still not sure if there is a warranty issue if it’s going to be a problem.

If it is not Dexos 1 Gen 2 certified and you are worried about a warranty issue, DO NOT do it.

5w-30?

I think I'm going to go to Dexos 2 0w-40 or 5w-40 oil.

I saw that Torco 5w-40 SR1 and was wondering how it was.

How is the Torco more impressing to you than the Amsoil, or how are you unimpressed with the Amsoil?

I'm asking because I use to use Amsoil in my truck...which I sold, and read about the Torco, so I was trying to decide which to use in my new old 17 1LE.

I'll be using the updated Signature Series 0W40 in my 2019 ZL1 1LE even though its not Gen 2 Certified, because the 5W30 IS Gen 1 certified and is recommended by G.M as a replacement.
Amsoil claims the updated stuff is 75% better and I've yet been given a reason too not trust them.

I got the amsoil free and paid for the torco and still like the torco better

they tested my car back in the day and gained 3whp with just an oil change and its made in usa good quality stuff but either one is $$$$

it doesnt have to have a DEXOS label on it. dexos spec is the minimum spec. basically any full synthetic exceeds the dexos rating. Amsoil is much better then any other full synthetic out there. your warranty is fine with Amsoil and even if GM tried to void it for having Amsoil in it. Amsoil will pay for your repairs then take GM to court. GM knows that so they wont void it. The signature series is great oil.

I should have bought a ZL1

I have run Amsoil since my second free oil change at approx 7500 miles. I just turned over 89,500 yesterday.

It's fantastic oil BUT I wouldn't go by their mileage warranty if you drive the car hard. I bought signature series ONCE and ran it for 14000 miles- resetting the oil monitor once. I wasn't happy with it and could tell it wasn't keeping its promises. Engine was running rough and starting hard.

I live on a canyon road which enables runs at 3-6k rpm+ for 6-10+ miles. I drive her HARD. I have to add 2-4 quarts in a cycle. No catch can. I'm a fan of Italian tune= 130-150mph required

Generally I ran the lowest grade or mid grade but now I run the high mileage XL in 10-40w in summer. I order it by the gallon from my local Napa. I change my oil by the monitor %.

Run the signature if you want (while being weary of 25k changes), but be confident in ALL Amsoil

Amsoil recommends ONLY using oil grades which OEM recommends for warranty. If you pick another grade you are on your own and outside of Amsoil official recommendation! At this time it is only Amsoil 5W30 which is GM Dexos 1 Gen2 certified and as such it is the ONLY oil Amsoil recommends for LT1/4 Camaros (and also stipulates one uses their filter as a requirement). There are also clear limitation as to long change intervals based on actual usage, etc. Dexos is not any "minimim standard". It is THE standard. Read how Amsoil describes specific tests GM requires for Dexos certification. Their words not mine btw. Amsoil will not take any OEM to court on your behalf and pay hundreds of thousands for litigation - that's a pipe dream. Read their warranty: it is all there in small print detail as to what the warranty covers (and does not cover), how and with what limitations and specific requirements on you - the consumer.

Bottom line: if you wish your motor (5yrs) and your emissions (8 yrs) warranty intact, use what GM specifies as approved oils in owner's manul (based on type of duty). And that's exactly what Amsoil's official position is as stated on their own website. Cheers!
