Cleaning the engine compartment

What are you guys doing/using to clean under the hood. Not looking to get super anal, just looking for a simple effective method. Thanks.

I like this and use the same spray on a cloth and wipe off with a cloth method.

I also use Simple Green. Spray on, let it set for a few minutes. Then use the low pressure rinse at the local car wash. Avoid direct spraying of any electrical connections. The wipe and dry up water until I am satisfied.

I too use simple green on a cold engine. Just don’t leave it on too long before rinsing.

Best cleaning the engine bay video ever. And the “How To” directions aren’t bad either.

I normally use just a damp cloth and then a nice non gloss dressing when dry. If I use a hose, maybe once a year I cover the electrical parts with thick cloths and use simple green to remove small oily or grimy spots.

Damp cloth, sometimes two, or at minimum a good rinse of one cloth. I wipe it down every time I wash the car. I wipe all the surfaces/areas I can easily reach. Strut towers, all plastic trim, supercharger, hoses, air intake, TB, coil pack covers, wire harness covers, underside of hood, pulleys, fuse box cover, etc. Seems to keep it pretty clean and I don’t need any cleaners or chemicals.

I use a cloth and some trim care that's used for vinyl cleaning. I don't clean that often, which is mostly because I don't drive in the rain. You can also do like some people have suggested and clean with the engine/tire degreaser at the carwash, and then use the light pressure to rinse it off. I personally would rather use the first method just to avoid too much water getting around vital parts, but you do have to remember that it's an engine bay and it gets exposed to water when you drive in the rain.
