Really Bad Day
I have to tell you... I had a really bad day. I'm really disappointed in GM. I realize what you are about to tell me is nothing new, but that still doesn't make it right.
I bought a 2021 2SS 1LE Camaro in September as the second owner. It had 5,300 miles on it, now it has about 9,700 miles on it. I took my car to my local dealer which is actually VERY good. I heard something sound sort of weird in the engine bay. To no one's surprise, those stock "cheap" lifters are going bad on the driver's side. Per GM warranty, they will only replace the broken side under warranty. We made the choice to do nothing for now and we're going to wait until I get a check engine light, get some misfires, or it starts sounding way worse. Mine is a manual so I thought I escaped the AFM/DOD lifter issue, but I was clearly misinformed on that and it turns out I have the same crappy lifters. So for now, it's just let it run until it gets worse and use the same crappy stuff while it's under warranty. The only way to make it right is new lifters, new heads, new cam.... but I have to tell you, for a car that cost more than $50k.... the last thing I want to do is put a ton of money into the engine lol. I bought this car to get away from a bad experience I had with a Mustang GT and my experience 4 months in with this car is already tainted. I'm upset at GM for cost cutting and using cheap parts of such a potent, powerful V8 engine. I'm not even sure what to think of the car anymore. I love the way it drives, but I'm not sure what's next. I'm really frustrated. Just wanted to vent.

I feel your pain. Went through a warrantee ordeal with a Chevy Cruze about 10 years ago but that was because the dealership service department was completely incompetent.
If the dealership is good, they will take care of it and the car will be fixed. The 6th Gen Camaro is one of the best cars made today. So hang in there. |

I had a lifter collapse passenger side, at 700 miles. Had it fixed, just the right-side lifters and it ran fine after that, track days included. I don't understand why you wouldn't get this fixed under warranty. You could have greater damage and wipe a camshaft and have to go deeper into the engine.

I agree with Uncle Sam; why wait until you trash more of the motor?
While I agree that the lifter could damage the cam; I'm not 100% sure that the heads/valves are going to be troubled by a bad lifter. If replacing the failed lifters doesn't work, then GM will fix another failure later also. Furthermore, if you are worried about the other parts not being replaced, ask the dealer if they will replace the other parts at "parts cost" only since labor will be covered under powertrain warranty. I would be cautious, as now GM can say that you chose to walk away from a repair that would have been covered under powertrain warranty. |

There's no reason to not get the lifters now, letting it get worse to possibly a whole top end isn't going to help anything. I think that that'd way hard on my mind and takes all the joy out of the car thinking every day when I stomp on it it's gonna be a catastrophic failure because I knew it had a bad lifter already. I would have to imagine that it's down on power but I'm not *that* knowledgable of a bad lifter.

I would get it fixed asap and try what BrandonK suggested. Gm could possibly deny fixing it if it got worse because you didn’t let them fix it in the first place when it was a smaller job.
On a side not Chevy seriously needs to get their **** together. They had valve spring issues for 2020 models and now are having lifter issues for 2021 models. I seriously hope there’s nothing wrong with 2023 models since I plan on eventually moving up to a used Zl1. Not to mention valve spring issues on c5z’s and valve guide issues on c6z’ as those were cars I was considering before I bought my 6th gen. I don’t know how after decades of developing engines things like this still happen where they get/make a bad batch of something. |

Even the lifters will likely take some time to get. Have your dealer get them ordered and then drive your car until they come in. Get it fixed asap. |

Right now you're intentionally damaging your engine because you're upset. Just sayin... GM may deny your claim. I would if I was the manager.

Get the repair done ASAP . If the dealer is good they will replace all the parts needed, and you will be still on warrantee if anything else go's wrong. Give them a chance to make it right .

Why bother with a warranty repair when you can just sell the car without disclosing the issue?

This is insane. Who'd walk away from a free warranty fix that if left ignored, may damage the engine further? C'mon, guy.

id say it's simply bad luck and not normal. i've been shifting my stock long block bolt on car at 6800+ for the last 10,000 miles. it has 32k on it now. with that being said, i've been expecting lifter issues.
edit: i agree with those telling you to have the car repaired asap. youre risking much more damage leaving it be.

Here's the fix.
Get one side repaired under warranty, for peace of mind, YOU pay to have them do other side at the same time. EASY.
