Lash cap for lt1 and lt4?
I got the cam fuel lobed 32% and lash cap for the pump. And it said like the pic the above. Should I use the different lash cap btw lt1 and lt4 pump? I thought the lt4 and lt1 pump are exchangable without any lash caps. |

“I have a little more info to add. I now have a 32%+ cam lobe and a lt4 pump. my testing shows the same results as that corvette thread on the subject. without lash cap there is no preload and it does not bottom out the pump with the .080 lash cap there is about .050 preload and it does bottom out the pump about .010 before the pump is seated without the gasket. looks like I either need to take a little off that lash cap or buy the .060 one mentioned in the corvette thread.” I ended up just sanding and then polishing the lash cap they gave me until it didn’t bottom out. I think I took about .020 off. You could also order a .060 lash cap. You Don’t want to run nothing, it will not have preload and you will be giving up some stroke. Read up on how to test for preload and pump bottoming and confirm both on your set up.

There's a thread going over how to install a lash cap, and you need a tool to make sure the preload is set right. I would follow that. Basically outlines what parish said.

you dont need that tool but you do need something to measure so you know when the cam is at the top and bottom of the lobe. I used a dial indicator I got from harbor freight a few years back.

My research tells me that there is no canned answer. You have to do the measurements for each setup, regardless of vendor labeling, if you are thinking about a lash cap. There seems to be enough variation that using a rule of thumb won't work.
Like Parish8 said, you don't need the tool, just something to determine top and bottom of the cam lobe stroke. |
