The 350 1LEs were great autocross cars. The L98 was down on HP but way up on Torque and was a powerhouse in 2nd gear in the 700R4. The 4th gen 1LEs had way more power but really weren't any faster in that 25-65 mph autocross range. Than the LS1s came out rated at 305 hp at the crank but producing that or slightly more at the rear wheels and we haven't looked back. I haven't had a 5th gen 1LE but am very likely going to get a 6th gen as a DD unless I cave in to the dark side and get a ZL1.

At any rate if is a fine time to be driving a Chevrolet whether it is an M6, M7, A8 or A10.

I agree with some of the posts that the 6 speed manual is the best transmission for this track beast!! Something to wonder about, why doesn't NASCAR use automatics in their race cars? I prefer a manual in this type of Camaro and Chevy does offer an auto in the ZL1 for a person that wants one.

The 350 TPI was rated around 350 ft-lbs torque I believe so that would have exceeded the 300 ft-lb rating of the T5.
Many L98 cars came with T-Tops.
