New rims and tires.
I'm wanting to give my 1SS a 1LE look with new rims and tires. I know the 1LE comes with 285/30 20's on the front with a 10" rim, and 305/30 20's in the rear on 11" rims.
Does anyone know if 285/35's in the front, and 305/35's in the rear will work with no clearance issues ? The 35's are about 1" taller than the 30"s, which I feel will fill the wheel-wells better and give the car a lowered look. I'm looking at MMR rims with factory offsets in either gloss black or gunmetal, does anyone have photos of either of these on a white car? Thanks. |

Several people have that wheel without issues. My advice is to buy and install rock guards before you mount your new setup. Unless you like peppered paint.

One thing you need to know is that the driver side front tire rubs very slightly at full left lock, and the liner is pushed a bit into a metal brace, so I wouldn't track the car with this tire size (in fact, I'll probably just go one notch down with my next purchase, the only reason I'm using these tires is I got them in a smoking hot deal). Previously I had gloss black MRR wheels, and I wasn't too impressed, gunmetal that is basically the stock 1LE wheel color looks much more, hm, refined and high end, whereas MRR's gloss black paint looks a bit bland (and much cheaper).

I'm really torn between gloss black and gunmetal. At first I didn't like the look of gloss black, but they started to grow on me a bit. I do agree that the gunmetal factory type color is a classier look. I hate to say it, but I think gloss black looks good on factory Mustang rims, as well as Vette's and Scat Pack's, but not so much with the 20" 1LE rim, the ZLE 19" looks much better in black IMO. I saw a white Daytona Scat Pack Charger yesterday with gloss black rims and chrome lug nuts, it looked really sharp and had me sold on gloss black...I'm so confused I found a video of a fellow putting gloss black 1LE MRR rims on a white Camaro, they look good in the video, but I'm not sure how they would look in person. I'm going with gloss black side skirts and front splitter, as well as gloss black SS badging, which is the one thing keeping me interested in the gloss black rims. I'll probably just go with the 30's over the 35's, although I like the look of the 35's a little better. |

I too did want black wheels but I did not want a glossy wheel, I wish they came in a satin/matte black but the gunmetal is much darker than the website shows it as. Here is how they look on mine: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=12

I suggested rock guards in case you decide to do side skirts. Not all side skirts work with gm or acs splash guards (which I have) without modifications. Wasn’t sure if you knew about that. Good luck with your decision I think either will look good.

They look great ! It looks like you have matte or satin side skirts and splitter? With the front poke I wonder if a little more stagger would look good, maybe a 275 in the front. What brand tire did you go with ? |

Here is my 2020 2SS with the Stock Carbon Flash 2SS OEM Wheels... and then the MRR 017 Gunmetal 1LE Replica wheels... I LOVE the change...
BEFORE: AFTER: I'll never go back! LOVE the look of the Gunmetal 1LE wheels! (the 1LE Wheels are with 1LE sized tires (305/30R20 & 285/30R20), on the next tire change I will likely go with 315/30R20 & 275/35R20 to get closer to my stock SS 275/35R20 & 245/40R20 stock SS tires ratios). I also relocated the rear driver's side wiring harness (just in case) which is super easy... BEFORE: AFTER:

I like the look of the GM splash guards a little better, either in body color (white) or gloss black if I go with gloss black rims, but it looks like the ACS guards are wider and would give more protection ? |

Those look great ! I would love to go with a 315 rear, is the drivers side harness relocation the only thing necessary to go with a 315 ? It looks like you have GM splash guards, are they large enough to give you enough protection with the wider tires? It looks like you have the factory GM SS center caps on your MRR rims, do the factory center caps work on MRR rims? |

I think center caps are the same size and transferable between stock and MRR. However, you will need new lug nuts with a smaller head diameter, because MRR uses much narrower clearances than stock. Not a fan of GM's splash guards, I had them on my previous V6 Camaro, and the only thing going for them is the factory look, the protection they offer is minimal, and they use rivets, so you'll need a rivet gun for installation and they will not remove cleanly, should you ever change your mind afterwards. One last piece of advice, go with gunmetal, you will not regret it Gloss black punches on the initial look but then the appeal fades quickly, and again, MRR's paint isn't particularly elegant, it's just plain black with no depth, plus it scratches very, very easily, which you will immediately see against the black.

Thanks for the info. You guys really make it a tough decision, every time I feel I'm set on gloss black, you fellows say gunmetal is the way to go and have me rethinking it. The info on the GM splash guards takes them off the table for me. The 315/30/20 and 275/35/20 look to be a very good compromise, and should look killer visually. I'm still on the fence of weather to step up in heights to the 305/35/20 and a 275/40/20 front. Would a 315/35/20 work in the rear with only relocating the wiring harness? It's a shame you can't find something right at 28" tall in a 305/20 or 315/20. I was thinking of going with Nitto 555G2's or 555RII's, any thoughts on those ? This is a weekend summer only car that will see maybe 3k miles per year. |
