Order time for new Camaro

I ordered a 2021 ZL1 4 weeks ago and GM still has no information as to when the car will be built or even when the order will progress to the next level. Does anyone have any insight about the delays or process.

Your dealer should have that information. My suggestion is work with a good dealer. Mine kept me posted at every change in order status along the way. For example, my order was placed July 30th. My 1LE arrived at Britain Chevrolet this morning. So about 8 weeks.

Thats crazy. Your dealer should have info. Inexcusable.

Order

I am nervous that the car does not move to the next level unless they have allocation? Getting an honest answer from a dealer is like getting an honest answer from an airline. How long after you ordered did you get the a rough build date, or at least numbers progress in the process?

Did you ask your dealer if they had an allocation before you bought it? Did you put money/deposit down on the car?

Does this dealer have a lot of Camaro's on the lot? Are they a high volume dealer?

I am guessing it will come down to the dealer being able to communicate better for you.

I knew the TPW (target production week) on August 6th. And it was made that week that GM gave him.

Order

I did a web bid and this dealer responded, my bad... I don’t know if they are high volume. I going to check that out now. GM has the order as I did an online chat but they say they have no other info. The question is can a dealer order a car if they don’t have a location ? And will that order get processed or does it sit until they have a location?

This might help:

A dealer can place an order without an allocation but it could sit for awhile

A customer order goes straight to Chevy it does not matter if there is a allocation. Do people just make up these rumor's.

Yes it goes to Chevy but guess what happens if your dealer does not have an allocation?

As of now, a dealer MUST have an allocation to place a sold order. Before Covid, there was something called Unallocated Sold Order Processing. This was would allow dealers to order certain vehicles for a customer even if they didn't have an allocation. Gm would pull the order and schedule it for production. That is gone now because of Covid and the parts and inventory shortage. It's mostly because GM knows that there are dealers that would abuse the system and input fake sold orders just to get inventory.

I am an automotive buyer (not GM), the hurricane a few weeks ago knocked a huge section off a BIG resin supplier and they are running on generators, so poly pro supply is significantly impacted, it's the injection molded material to make certain plastics. Could be the issue here.
