Catch can oil amount too much after track day?
Had a track event at Road America last weekend, went all four sessions and ran hard.
Oil was dropped the Wednesday before the event and the car sat prepped in the garage until hitting the track. Catch can was drained empty before the first session. Getting around to it today, doing some maintenance after the fact, and I drained the catch can to have what seems to me like too much oil in it. Setup a Mighty Mouse wild on the dirty side of the car and mishimoto rigged up on the clean side going into the intake for the pro charger. I’ve only ran the pro charger setup twice now on the track, fresh oil (Mobil1 0w40 euro formula) and filter before the event. This is the amount of oil in a 12oz water bottle... any suggestions as to where to start looking for an issue, or did the catch can just do its job and do it well? |

What “track oil”?
Manual says to run 0w40... what am I gaining by running 15w50 over 0w40 on hot summer days? Talked to a couple people who run the same track and a local mechanic who runs Chevy engines and said it’s to be expected with a FI and the e blend I run. Maybe just not used to this yet. Guess I’m just looking to see if anyone else experienced similar issues or had issues like this. |

It also states in that same manual to use a dexos2 grade oil.

Drive. Is correct euro 0w40 is not the oil specified in the manual but should provide more protection at the expense of the emissions equipment.

Cats are going and soon to be gone, so I’m not worried too much about emissions equipment.
And I’m all for being corrected... but the last year or so of reading up.. the dexos certification is just for detergents being used in that oil to keep it what “GM wants it to be.” But from my understanding because I didn’t use a dexos1/2 oil and it pushed that much oil into my catch can???? Finding that hard to believe.. but defiantly do show me I’m wrong |

My recommendation was to use 15w-50 non dexos for track use per Al O in the provided link

No comment on the catch can, but I would love to run at Road America.
& who’s running the new 0-40EXP? My manual says 5-30 for everyday & 15-50 for track. |

Mobil 1 ESP replaced the 5-30 for the LT1 engine, has been running good for me, even the blowby doesn't smell as gasoline as much

As it turns out I will be in Milwaukee on the 21st, but I will be on a business trip, so just passing though. Maybe next year. Add: Mentioned it to the wife & she said it sounded like fun. I’ll look into it further. Last edited by gtfoxy; 09-05-2020 at 09:45 AM. |
