V4 V8 mode?

How does the AFM work with the 2019 and up A10 auto's? It was clunky and sucked with my 2019 C7 A8 auto. Range does not have a device yet for the A10 so i would have to live it for a while.

I never really notice the switch between V8 and 4-cylinder mode. Unless I look down at the display to see what mode it's in, I can't tell.

Never noticed the switch either while AFM was enabled on my car, the transition was super smooth (and I have the A8).

The only giveaway, if I wasn't staring at the V8 or V4 symbol in the cluster, was the temporary lack of power.

I have a 2020 LT1 with the A10. The transition is completely seamless. Honestly, GM nailed the tuning between the A10 and the AFM. The car cruises very well at highway speed, and then grabs the require gear as soon as you start to roll into the gas.

I also have a 2016 GMC Yukon with the 5.3 L83 and the 6L80, and I cannot say that it is as smooth. Don't get me wrong, they did a great job here also, but I can hear the tone change in the truck when it switches to V4 mode. The A6 obviously isn't as responsive as the new A10 either.

Both great vehicles.

You can't even notice it changing, the A10 is great. Range DOES have a device to disable AFM (I have one on my 2020 2SS)... https://www.rangetechnology.com/prod...r/parts/RA003R

(The AFM/DFM Disabler is NOT currently compatible with 2019+ 6.2L 10-speed Silverado and Sierra models.)

Last October I sent an email to Range asking them if the device would work with my 2020 A10. The answer was that it would work fine. I purchased it and have been using it for a year now with no issues whatsoever.

When I had it enabled it was fine. The car did spend a lot of time in V4 mode while in the city which was fine but it did seem to have a slight lag when punching it. TBH it was one of the first things I turned off when we started tuning the car and I haven't missed it. Also, I didn't see any change in fill ups without it.

Does it work on the 21's? I thought there was a change on the 20/21's that might cause issues with things such as this. Perhaps I am mistaken, though.

It should work fine on a 2021, in 2020 they changed the Transmission controller but the Range device still works, the 2021 has the same controller as the 2020...

I had a C7 M7 and I tried the AFM when I was driving from Edmonton to Fort McMurray by putting the car in ECO mode. Other than the subtle exhaust tone and some minor vibration in the shifter(which you are not supposed to rest your hand on in a manual car anyway), it worked pretty well.

Can't imagine it being that different in the Camaro, but mine is a 6-speed so I don't even have that functionality. To each of their own.

One month ago I inquired with RANGE TECHNOLOGY if they have a module yet for my 2020 ZL1 with A10. The tech said they currently did not have a specific module for the car and if I were to use the #RA003G from my previous C7 Z06 with A8, it may not not work properly ("erratic shifting").

I sold my module and will wait for the development of an A10 specific module.

FWIW, the inquiry was answered by HOLLY tech support. HOLLEY evidently purchased RANGE recently.

Right from Range's website...

I've been using it on my 2020 2SS A10 for several months, working fine...

In mine i can feel it, if i pay attention, it's like a tiny loss of power, like it slows the car .001mph, and gets quieter. So definitely not jerky. Why would the transmission matter? Does the transmission do something when we switch to V4? I thought it just deactivates the cylinders and closes the valves?

It doesn't, but somehow every other thread around AFM turns into an A8 bash fest, even though AFM only promotes the symptoms of shudder and does not cause it.
