Why would You add a half Qt of oil? It holds 10 Qts!!!!! It could be down 3 Qts and not bother anything .Is it using a lot of oil?

The oil is fine. It is just the oil life algorithm is programmed for full synthetic.
There are multiple advantages to using full synthetic oil, but 95% of the advantage is extended change interval.
Conventional 3-5k miles
Blend 5-7k miles
Full synthetic 10k miles

Like Scotty says (Scotty Kilmer on YouTube), it don’t matter what the mfg of the car or oil or what type of oil you use, if you let your oil changes go longer than 5,000 miles you’re asking for trouble down the road.

Just change it every 5,000 miles no matter what the oil life monitor or owners manual tells you and you’ll be good to go for 250,000+ miles.

Ha good one!
It has used roughly 1/2q since oil change and I’m down to 36% oil life. Based on what I’ve poured out of the oil cc, its not surprising.
Thanks everyone!

Says one guy on YouTube...

Modern engines and oil can do much better than 5K OCIs. Many modern cars are now 10,000 OCI and are lasting 250,000+.

5K is nothing and generally overkill for a majority of vehicles on the road. Plenty of UOAs out there showing appropriate wear for the mileage with no issue.

Well he’s not the only one I was just using him as an example.

All the UOA’s on the planet won’t change my mind either. You’re welcome to leave that crap in for as looooong as you want in your car.

Me? I’ve owned my own cars since 1996 and will always do 5k intervals. And if it’s overkill I sleep well knowing it doesn’t hurt.

For what it's worth, my brother, a former GM technician of 15 years, also recommends changing the oil in your vehicle every 5,000 miles.

Maybe...........Just maybe....If I would have changed my oil every 5K instead of 6, my car wouldn't be sitting in my garage for months end until I find the time and money to replace the AFM lifters that went out in my car at just 93K.....
...........I never did like the way the oil looked when I drained it at 6K but I figured 10 Qt. system, full synthetic, and GM's own 7.5K intervals, I should be safe at 6K............If I ever get this thing back on the road it will never go past 5K oil change intervals........

If it isn't dexos, or similar, it can cause detonation/valve coking problems. A catch can will help prevent, but won't solve it.
