Headers & hi flow cats into stock exhaust or straight pipes?

This is for a buddy it's a 5th gen 6.2 SS 1LE but I'm thinking folks here could give some input as well.

He's got some kooks 1 7/8 with hi-flow cats and he bought a 3" straight through setup with an x pipe as well. I'm guessing it's gonna be way louder then he wants so the question, tie it into stock exhaust or use the straight setup and possibly put some vibrant resonators on it, and what would he be giving up in hp to just use the stock exhaust after headers?

Try stock first. Then go from there.

I went from muffler delete to ARH 2 inch long tube catless headers with the stock exhaust back on it. Not sure how much HP it would have been without the muffler but I gained about 25 WHP before and after.

Noise level came out perfect in my opinion. A little louder than stock with anything under 2.5k RPM but gets loud af when you go WOT

You don't want straight pipes....not with headers...

Like redline said,

I used American Racing Headers, no cats, xpipe back to original muffler.
Engine can finally breathe. Sounds great & yes full throttle is loud AF. Your neighbors will love it.

Not sure if the 5th gen is any difference but headers to straight pipe sounds like ass. To the stock exhaust it's a lot better but sometimes have a tin can sound. Granted this is moreso for the 6th gen.

I'd suggest what Enzia said and start with the stock muffler before chopping anything off.

I believe I have made a bad decision..I bought Kooks catless headers which will hook up to my secondary cat deleted H pipe system with no mufflers.I never had a system like this before. I believe the only option I have left is I keep my stock suitcase muffler or buy AWE conversion kit or buy catted connections. Not sure if any of those will make a difference.

Headers make it louder. I installed the Flow Tech glass pack mufflers first and it sounded great but the headers made it louder but more torque. I like it as it is. The stock muffler sounds way to tinny.
