There is no cable in the shot above. Guy is using just bluetooth. In base of the holder has a place to lock in a cable, you just have to drop the pone in to the holder to make the cable connect. Make sure you choose the right cable locker though. I chose the wrong one and I had to buy a $10 item for lightening cable
(or similar spec aftermarket cable).

My music etc is definitely quieter not louder when I am using my phone plugged in VS Bluetooth.

My ZL1 plays text messages out loud from my android phone and it's only paired with Bluetooth. No cables or anything. 2017 ZL1, so maybe the updated infotainment system is different in newer models. Don't have a data plan for the car or Onstar service either.

The link above says, they got rid of text messaging in updated 2019 infotainment unit (probably because most people use AA or ACP, and not worth the bother)
