Help, how to I hear text messages on my 2019 ZL1
Can't seem to figure this out. On my 2016 2SS when I received a text it would read it out to me, does the ZL1 do this, if so how? Also, is there free wifi in the car? It says I need a data plan with Onstar?
Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts ;( |

Not sure about the texts but the wifi, yes. You need a data plan. You have a trial for like 3 months then it shuts off and you'll need to pay.
I've never liked it. Just some gimmick Chevrolet offers. |

The OnStar plans are overpriced in my opinion. It's annoying that data is separate too. I could almost justify paying for OnStar if it came with free data.

I have never used Android Auto. I used to just get in my car, and when someone texted me, it would come thru the speakers of the car. I just read online that NO 2019 OR 2020 GM vehicles have this feature anymore, unless you use Android Auto or Apple Car play. Crazy to have to plug in my phone to just hear texts while I am driving. Unless I am missing something, does ANYONE with a 2019 able to do this? |

I use apple car play and when my phone is plugged in to the USB port, the car will read text messages to me. I don’t have onstar and don’t pay for the WiFi. I realize that this doesn’t answer your direct question (how to make it function), but know that it is possible. You do have your phone plugged in, right?

If you do not have your phone plugged you cant hear messengers from apps like Messenger or what's app. Only straight phone to phone texts. You also need to make sure you have the volume on your phone turned up otherwise you wont be able to hear it in the car.
Plug in your phone to hear messenges on messenger or other apps through Androud Auto or Apple CarPlay |

I am not looking to plug in my phone. I just wanted to know if phone to phone text messages would play like they did in my 2016 2SS. I did not plus in my phone or use Android Auto. When I was driving, if a text came in, I would hear it thru the stereo. I just picked up my 2019 ZL1, and what I am trying to figure out if this is possible without plugging in my phone. I do appreciate all the comments.

Just an FYI. I don't use or have a plan for Onstar. I get my wifi plan through AT&T and it was half the price of what Onstar wanted. I'm guessing, but it would not surprise me if you can get a wifi plan through most of the telecoms or cable companies. Onstar is not your only option.

There are 2 systems that can read the messages to you, the OEM Infotainment system and then if you have the ACP / AA update to the infotainment system.
When your phone connects to the car you need to go into the bluetooth settings and make sure the BT profile for the Camaro has the phone, text, and or audio settings turned on and allowed. once you pair the phone to the car those settings are not always turned on by default. If it is done right then when you get a text it will show up on the dash DIC and you can either read or decline it by using the steering wheel controls. I use AA on my Samsung S10+, so when I have AA running and a text comes in I just push the infotainment on screen button and it reads the text to me.

I have a Samsung S10 and have never has to use Android Auto. Once my phone was paired with the OEM system in the car via bluetooth WITHOUT a cord, I could listen to music, and when a text came in it would appear on the stereo and the car would read me the text. I can't believe GM would have gotten rid of that in the 2019 model. Is anyone able to do this without a cable? |

Bonus #1: you get a different screen to have Waze running. Bonus #2: the audio is louder and clearer than bluetooth.
