Xpel and ceramic coat taking forever
I bought my new 1LE on the 6th. It was then sent to have the front clip, rockers and around rear wheels xpel wrapped. Then they whole car is getting ceramic coated as well as window tinting. It was taken to do this on the 8th. I was told that I wont be able to get my car until the 20th or 21st. Is this normal wait time? I know there is a ton of prep work and the car has to sit for hours after each ceramic coat is applied. I was hoping it would be less than a week though. Bummer that I wont get it by the 18th for the Woodward dream cruise

Seems way long. I dropped my 1LE off to have it Xpel wrapped in the same places you did. Took overnight. Dropped it off at noon and picked it up around the same time the next day. Didn't have ceramic done but don't know of any that takes longer than a day to apply.
Have you been to the shop to see the car? Are sure you they haven't damaged it and waiting to have it fixed? |

Yes I can look at my mileage and location on my phone and it has not budged. I was told they will finish up the front clip wrap this afternoon. Then prep and detail in the morning to start the 1st ceramic coat layer. Then that has to sit for 20 hours. Once that is done they apply the 2nd ceramic coat layer. Then it has to sit 72 hours inside their shop in a controlled room. This seems overkill

A week sounds awfully fast. I’d be highly suspect of the quality of that job. A solid paint correction, with ceramic coating will take around 4-5 days, depending on how many people are working on your car. Wrapping may take another day or two beyond that. That is assuming that the same place is doing the job.

The detailer is pushing your work back to complete others' cars for the Dream Cruise. I'm assuming also no discount, because they are giving preferential treatment to others. I'd just go collect my car and get it handled by someone who respects me, that should be 2-3 days MAX.
Ceramic coatings are cured with IR in like 15 mins per section, we aren't waiting days or weeks for cure times any longer. Any XPEL qualified shop will have the IR setups to dry ceramic as well. |

I has the exact same Xpel job done and it took about 3-4 hours with 3 guys working on it.
Ceramic coating can vary widely depending on how much prep work needs to be done, how many coats they are doing, and what the cure time is between coats. |

It took 1 guy 4 days to do my Cquartz Pro job, and I made my appointment 6 weeks out so I wasn't waiting in line behind other work.

Washing, prepping (masking off windows with tape), polishing, ceramic coating, all took me a total of 2 days, probably 12 hours worth of actual labor. Can't speak on the Xpel film stuff, never applied that myself but the actual ceramic coating is straight forward, not very difficult. What's more time consuming is polishing it before you put the ceramic coating down.
Also worth mentioning I did this on my BMW X5. |
