Camaro engine ticking

Hey everyone, I was driving through a parking garage today and noticed that my engine was ticking very loudly and was wondering if it was normal direct injection noises or something to visit the dealership for. It is much louder and noticible in person and the reason I am posting this is compared to other cars, the ticking in my car seems louder and more noticable. I got a short clip on idle but it is much more noticible as the engine revs higher: https://youtu.be/8GiLVENgPbU

honestly i don't think that ticking sounds quite right. i know these things are noisy but that tick doesn't sound normal at least to my ears.

Agreed, that sounds more metal on metal. You might hear a little bit of that on cold start (which is normal), but not when warm. Take it to the dealer.

Any mods? Anything happen that you suspect might be the cause?

Yeah, I'd definitely take that in. Interested to know what the issue is. Could be a lubrication problem. How does the oil level / pressure look?

Yeah, that's unfortunate. If it turns out to be pretty involved, hopefully they'll just replace the engine.

Mine is a '14 Corvette Stingray Z51, which has the same engine like the Camaro SS. A random engine noise appeared after the 33K miles, while driving it. My dealer replaced engine lifters. Problem continued afterwards, then they figure it was the serpentine belt tensioner which was wasted, it was replaced, noise now is gone. This LT1 engines don't have the right QC, less dependables compared to the 5th. gen basic engine design.

These pushrod motors tick. They have done it all the way back from the C5 Corvette days.

They are much more insulated from the cabin than they used to be.

My very first Corsa Exhaust system I put on my C5 Z06 was because I hated the sound of the ticking noise, it sounded like a sewing machine.

Since then , I have added Corsa to every Corvette I had. They have done a better job of isolating that noise from the cabin than in the past, but from outside especially where it can echo off a wall (like in a garage or drive-thru) its pretty noticeable.

Unless it is a really loud ticking sound, it probably is just a normal characteristic of the pushrod LS & LT motors.

I'm having a similar issue. It started happening after I got it back from the dealership to fix a non-start issue. Only seems to happen during cold starts. My friend seems to think the water pump is going out. What do you guys think?

^^^The tick I'm hearing is the normal direct injection tick - that's always there. There's another cold start-up tick that more metallic and goes away when it warms up - normal also.

The whine doesn't seem normal and should be checked out. Could be a pulley or your friend may be right.
