Clicking sound in rear end
Hi All,
I have noticed a clicking/clacking sound in my rear end when driving slow. it is most noticeable when creeping around parking lots. it sounds like a clicking CV joint. It happens randomly from side to side. If I pull forward 15FT and Back up 15Ft the clicking happens around the same spot. Straight or turning, it doesn't matter, however it happens more when swerving or parking. I have read all the "axle click" searches and checked my mounting surface on the rotors and re torque my axle nuts accordingly. However, I am lost where to go now without having to pull an axle. I have to apologize to BMR as well as I threw them under the bus when this first started. I chalked it up the the toe rods and end links without being fact based. I had me 250LB buddy bounce on my trunk aggressively and there was no clicking or squeaking to be heard.

Have you replaced your LSD fluid? There is an additive in the fluid that is supposed to eliminate that noise. It usually comes in the fluid now but it also sold separately.

By the way, this stuff had a huge drop in price. I had to pay $26 per quart about 5 weeks ago. Down to $14.40.

That's the fluid I used in my SS/M6 - I didn't add anything to it as I don't have the eLSD and have had zero issues since the change (all 7,000 miles of it - lol).
When I bought it two years ago, it was $22/quart. I'm considering buying a couple of quarts at this price just to put it on the shelf. |

Gas/diesel prices have come down quite a bit, shipping costs are much lower now.

The $22/quart I paid was long before the major jump in prices, though. At the time I bought the diff fluid, I was paying about $2.159/gallon for premium (Aug/Sep 2020). Current gas costs (now that it has come down a bit) are about $4.599/gallon.

...that said, I still warmly welcome the recent $1/gal drop in gas prices.

And, like you, I appreciate the costs coming down but still feel like they are WAY higher than they should be. |

well I have officially exhausted all my options. Axle Bolts tightened (passenger side was backed off half a turn and could turn with my fingers) and re torqued to 199FTLBs, no excessive play in bearings, cleaned the rotor and wheel mating surface and changed the diff fluid to RP synthetic gear.
It has little improvement. Only thing I can think of now is it is the CV joints in the axles. Anything i'm missing here? it is really quite bothersome knowing there is something not right. I have a 1500KM remote trip planned coming up on Thursday and I would really like to ease my mind. Everything looks great.

Update: (incase anyone needs to know the n the future)
So after all this, it turned out to actually be the BMR toe rods. So now my question is, for all of you that have these, what are you all using to lube them? I ended up using some Loctite anti-seize. I didn’t have any lithium grease left and this was my next best choice. Now I’m going to add this task to my yearly diff service. Which judging by the pictures needs to be done at least yearly. Even the top fill plug was thick.

Sounds like you found your issue but you may also want to check the rear axle half shaft bolts that have been updated:
