True also that if you do get caught speeding with a radar detector you're pretty much going to get a ticket and not a warning.
I thought it was MD, but couldn't remember. It was definitely a construction zone, and the 'overage' that triggered the citation seemed small (although I do wholly respect the fact that it was a construction zone, even if it was on the weekend and there were no workers present).

Nah, at least not here in East Tennessee

Interestingly, though some local townships do have red light cameras with automatic ticketing, a process which I am unfortunately familiar with (wasn't ever me, but insurance is under my name, you know how it goes). This should be illegal IMO, like any other kind of automated penalization.

On topic, I'm running a cheap Uniden DFR9 with a Blendmount plus Gen5DIY's overhead console wiring harness, the whole thing looks almost OEM, the factory headliner even has a notch for the wire (not kidding). It obviously isn't the best, but pretty good for the $200 it cost me, and saved me plenty of times.

I think this starts with whether it's a one-party or two-party consent state. Next is whether specific legislation is introduced to allow cameras to be used for specific things and automating of fines/penalties, or even certain "terms of use" conditions. Some toll roads may fall into this where they can bill you automatically if you don't have a toll transponder.

This is not true as a blanket statement. The ones listed as
RDD immune below don't have that issue and cops are likely only going to be using a RDD (radar detector detector) in the few states where radar detectors are illegal: https://www.vortexradar.com/best-radar-detectors/

Here's an older article with more details. The Radenso Pro M that I recommended is in the effectively stealth category.

Don’t think that applies to a setting where there is no expectation of privacy.

my sister and brother-in-law live in Tennessee and he throws the tickets away from the automated cameras, he says the governor (iirc) doesn't enforce camera tickets, might want to research that though.

In Maryland the trigger is 12 mph over. And yes we have red light cameras too, although some jurisdictions have done away with them because of the accidents they cause when people stomp on the brakes.

In Maryland no problems being recorded on video; audio requires 2-party consent.

And if you don't pay speed camera tickets or red light tickets you will end up in court. They want their money . . .

I really wasn't thinking about LEOs using a radar detector detector - I would think they would only have them in states where RDs are illegal. I meant more them looking in your car and seeing it. It's not like they wouldn't know where people mount them. Incidentally, if you're being pulled over it might not be the best time to try to hide something.

I got pulled over once years ago when I was hit by laser from the other side of the road in the dark; my RD went off, and of course I hit the brakes. Made it obvious I had a RD since I'm sure the LEO could see my brake lights as I passed him. I wonder if I didn't hit the brakes if I might not have been pulled over.

I don't think I was that far over at the time, but it was a while ago. Maybe it changed? Dunno. Not really important, I suppose.

I've heard great things about the Valentine's, but if you're on a budget the Uniden R3 is pretty solid as well. In NY it saved me from a ticket when it picked up a state trooper on Ka band from almost a mile away. That along with running Waze can help keep you from a ticket most of the time anyways.

Redline 360C here super long range detection. I use the detector and Waze as mostly hwy driving. If I was more city I would get jammer for sure then all 3 best you can do.

V1 paired with my iPhone running V1 driver app to eliminate false readings. This unit is awesome, saved me so far 11 times and counting.
