Max camber and contact with strut assembly

Does anyone know if the strut tower assembly, can be installed incorrectly in a 2018 ZL1?

For some reason my Front driver side tire is rubbing on the strut tower lip where the spring is seated, when it never has before even though the alignment is back to the -2.4 camber I had last year when I had no problems.

I only noticed this when turning right it only rubs partway through the turn.

I am using Camaro ZL1 1LE wheels and tires

Did they rotate the front struts when they did the track alignment?

No to installing the strut assembly incorrectly. The problem is that you have too much negative camber and the ZLE wheels are 19 "

Well what's the difference now compared to before? Did you get springs? Or anything else? New tires?

If memory serves, I am pretty sure you have to machine away the gusset on the strut in order for it to fit, and even then it might rub under track conditions.

What do you mean by rotated?

I have not checked with the latest alignment that has -2.4 Camber, but the driver side strut looks different than the passenger side strut. It’s like they are exactly the same piece but because one is on the right and ones on the left, it makes it so That the lip where the spring is seated, rubs on the tire only on the driver side because the lip is not symmetrical.

Except I have the exact same set up and alignment as last year and it worked fine then.

Except for new front lower control arms from SLP…

I’m not sure what that part of the strut is, however I did machine away part of the strut last year before using these wheels and tires, and that’s not the part that is rubbing now. It’s rubbing under the lip where the spring is seated and only on the drivers side.

He thought you have a ZLE with DSSVs and the camber plates that are rotated for max camber.

You dont have a ZLE, and therefore can't rotate a camber plate on your standard ZL1 strut tops to get more camber.

The size and orientation of non-ZLE struts and the fact that you're using wider ZLE front wheels/tires and setting it at high neg camber is why you're rubbing. It is expected under those conditions.

Thanks for clarifying

Except it didn’t rub last year when I had the exact same set up and alignment, minus the SPL front lower control arms

But did u get a new alignment recently? Because even if it's the same -2.4 maybe is closer to -2.5 than to -2.4?

It's odd that you had no issues before. You could always have the alignment changed to a little less than -2.4 and that would solve the issue

The previous line was -2.5 and the new one is -2.4

I’ll probably just get a spacer and call it a day

I've not had great experience with non-race shops doing alignments. Appears there is some slop in the specifications that they produce. Close enough that you may not notice during actual driving.

IOW, I tend to agree with Wuiquen.

Yep... my bad! Saw ZL1 1LE in the post and brain skipped over that it was ZL1 1LE WHEELS, lol
