love my ZL1, and when I look at what they are going for now it is a heck of a bargain for someone today and an excellent platform for modifications with a ton of information available for cost effective DIY. For 45.5k you could buy a Gen5 ZL1 and have enough $$ to build one hell of a bad ass car.

They were produced by SLP and were nothing more than an SS with different wheels, exhaust and a supercharger. Do it right and get a true ZL1 for under $40k. They are all over the place.

Went and looked at a new 6th Gen.........

You can find a zl1 for $30-33k now. That is if you trust that the previous owner didn’t abuse the crap out of it for 50k miles. We’re talking GM quality now, they don’t exactly have a reputation for using high quality parts. Or you can get yourself a new or certified used 6th gen and be better covered in a car that likely wasn’t driven as hard. I like the 5th gen zl1 a lot but buying a used supercharged car is something I would be skeptical about doing. I read somewhere that the LSA is only 20% stronger than the LS3? That’s not enough to put my faith behind a used one.

Yea its strong, but it isn't fully forged. It has forged crank, forged powdered metal rods, and cast hypereutectic pistons. The heads are rotocast to reduce porosity. Overall it is a stronger build than a stock LS3, but it's no hand built LS9.

That said, I would have one in a second.

I was at a Houston dealer and that was drive out price they gave me. The GT Mustang is the cheaper car by far hands down. I'm not sure how Ford can sell them as cheap as they do, but it is what it is. I really wanted the 10spd because it's noticeably quicker than the 8. It's on par with the Mustang at that point, but it isn't worth the price difference. I've seen base GTs with the 10spd going for 29k and the LT1 trim is still 35k. As stated, the price difference can buy a LOT of mods or better cars for the money. I'm just really disappointed to be honest. Was hoping since I was a previous customer and 2 time Camaro owner they'd wanna keep me as one. Guess it's not the case. So I will be looking harder at the Mustang now since it's truly bang for the buck. Yes I've driven both and they are both fine cars. Just really bummed on how GM is repeating history all over again.......

2020 Camaro 1SS starting msrp $37,995. 2020 Mustang GT starting msrp $35,630. That’s a difference of about 40 bucks per month on a 5 year note. If you’re in the market for a $40k car that’s not a huge difference.

Agreed man, it really is a bummer. It not like it is a secret to them. I wouldn't blame you for walking away either. I don't know how Ford is able to do it, but GM can't...or won't.

Looking at Ebay and other sites, I cannot believe how inexpensive ZL1 and Z28s have become. Personally, I would not have any issue buying used. But that's just me. New w/warranty is a huge deal for that large a purchase. Can't fault a guy either way.

I can’t speak for the 10 speed autos but the 6 speed mustangs are garbage. That cheap Chinese made mt82 getrag is the worst thing to hit the mustang. It’s a guaranteed failure point and a constant source of frustration from Mustang owners.

The mustang has always been a far more popular car than the Camaro. Ford was selling millions of them even in the 60’s. The mustang has a bigger following and support group. Heck, even MGW still hasn’t developed a shifter for the 6th gen yet.

Regardless of all that though, the Camaro is built on a brand new world class platform with proven performance. Ford is still using an old Lincoln/Jaguar based chassis that’s been carried over from the 2005 s197 generation. That quad cam 5.0 and now the 10 speed auto is about the only thing the Mustang has going for it. Ford is a cheap cost cutting company, much worse than GM. I will never go back to owning any mustang other than my ‘65 coupe. Camaro any day for me, I will gladly pay the difference in price.

I don’t think they even have the 5.0 going for them. The mod motors are so freakin expensive to mod compared to the ls stuff.

i owned an s550 for a year..terrible car. i ended up hating it..i would be careful buying one of these things. read the amount of issues they have aswell.
cheap car for a reason our gen5 camaros are light years ahead in build quality and driving dynamics.
that coyote motor is not good either. the lack of torque drove me crazy..small cabin aswell.
easy to be fooled by these with the bling on offer.

Mod motors are what pushed me away from Ford.

Enjoying the heck out of this LS game.

Same with me, I ditched the mustang to get back into a pushrod. Complete lack of low end torque.
