Perhaps for a few laps. But only until that ultra tiny 16 gallon gas tank rears it's ugly head. WTF, Ford!

A true deal breaker, and it would bring back bad memories of the teeny 16 gal. tank that was in my '70 GTO. Every 160 miles, I was filling the bastard up again, and I could run that Rochester Quadrajeted thing right down to empty. No way one can use all 16 gallons in a modern Fuel Injected car. Fun car, but the tiny tank SUCKED!

The ZLE isn’t a drag car and certainly suffers from big aero. The real performance test is on a road course, so for me the win is clearer.

The standard ZL1 is a better all around car than the GT500 for the features and similar ride quality. Would be interesting to put the same tires on the GT500 and standard ZL1 and retest.

More like 13-14K more expensive but yes more expensive.

this will sound nitpicky but I assume the ZL1 has something like blind spot monitoring standard right? which is why you need the electronics package on the GT500, but on Ford when you add that you get the premium audio upgrade and nav. nav is still optional on the ZL1 and there is no premium audio option

But your point still stands the GT500 will be more expensive no matter what.
Your options are actually fairly limited on either the ZL1 or the ZLE. This is due to the high standard content.

The ZL1 comes standard with blind spot monitoring, front camera with front collision alert, cross-lane traffic warning, backup camera and back-up sensors for the safety section. Interior comes with Recaro seats, 9 speaker Bose sound system (that is the upgraded system, standard), Apple Car Play, Android Auto and just too much to list.

https://gmauthority.com/blog/wp-cont...ne-15-2018.pdf

Just look at the last column and all of the S for the standard equipment. I think you have to pretty much option out the GT 500 to get to the standard equipment.

The options are sun roof (N/A on ZLE), exposed carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber dash insert, 10 speed auto and PDR. I may have missed something, but I am at a loss to figure out what.

Mine listed for $69,980 including destination and gas guzzler tax. The only option that my ZL1 (non-1LE) was missing was the carbon fiber dash insert. Please do option out a GT500 to that level and let me know what you come up with?

My sticker was 68,880, didn't have the carbon fiber dash or hood. I believe that's all it was missing.

Didn't come with the red seat belts either, but I think those would have been kind of obnoxious anyways.

This article caused a s#1t storm over at M6G. As a guy who loves cars, I don’t care which wins...I bought mine because it’s the one I wanted. It’s a bonus that it’s faster around a track, available for purchase, and generally sold without an ADM.

I felt bad after seeing that. That GT 500 is the truth.

38 degrees? They do a straight line race in 38 degree weather! My tires seem almost worthless in under 50 degrees. That ZL1 was slipping way too much! If they'd done a proper race in proper race conditions...the Z would have won to the quarter...and then passed by both eventually. My point is....they either wanted to make the Gt500 look that much better and/or did no research on how these cars run a peak performance.

Dude, stock to stock, the GT500 will kick the ZL1's butt in a straight line regardless of the temperature

This thread won’t be official until “can’thavetoomuchhp” shows up with his editors and ghost writers.

Uhh, no. The GT500 is going to pull on the ZL1 in the straights no matter what. The ZL1 actually has an easier time getting traction from what we've seen, and will keep up with the GT500 on the street even though it doesn't accelerate as fast.

I hate to say this. I agree with this guy and have thought this ever since they released how much power the 500 is going to have. It’s kind of expected I’d say. Although our cars are lighter, 110hp is very significant.
