Can you guys give me an idea what a normal dyno tune usually costs. No forced induction involved. I called a local shop and they mentioned $5-600. Is that typical?

I paid $650 last week at a highly reputable shop in NTX. $100 of that was the HP Tuners fee to unlock the computer. If the computer is unlocked already, then the cost is less. Most tuners will charge by the hour after the initial tune for any updates/upgrades you do after the initial tune.

This is not factual. You have to buy 2 credits per cable for HP Tuners unless you spend big money and unlock each model and year. Example: you go to Jimmys shop he uses 2 credits unlocks the computer and tunes your car and it sucks. You then go to Carlos shop say hey my car has been tuned once by hp tuners he is going to say very good! I still have to license your car to my cable so its another $100.00. Most big shops have done enough model year specific tunes they are unlocked and it is included in the tune fee.....

Hey Lazer - thanks for chiming in on the details of how HP tuners works. Tuning cars myself is the one thing I never got into due to the cost of the software and time required to learn how to do it right.

I can't say one or another whether my tuner has a license that didn't require my computer to be unlocked or not, but the guy at the front desk (not the tuner) told me that my total fee of $650 (including tax) included the fee to unlock the computer of $100. I went to True Street Motorsports in North Texas and they have been tuning cars for over 25 years and they know their stuff. They also have a loyalty program where they can modify the tune anytime if I change anything in the future for $100 per hour on the dyno. Doing some price shopping from other local tuners and having an LS swapped 65 c10 tuned at LG Motorsports 2 years ago I can say without a doubt that True Street's fees are market pricing for tuning in my area.

Take care buddy and btw... love your car!

I'm having heads and a cam installed soon and was trying to set my expectations for what gains I might be making. I'm adding the TS PRC CNC 260cc heads and the Texas Speed Stage 4 LS3 235/248, .649"/.615", 111 LSA. My other mods are just TS 1 7/8 LT with high flow cats, K&N CAI. I will also add the VMAX Ported TB.

What are realistic RWHP and TQ numbers? I appreciate everyone's feedback.

I saw a lot of guys on here saying that they pay $450-$500 for a tune. I was shocked to find out I would have to pay $650 + 2 credits to have my car tuned. It was well worth it though. The tuner did an excellent job with driveability, which was sorely lacking from my remote tuner. Now I have my own HP Tuners software (yep, had to buy another 2 credits) so I can make adjustments myself. I'm taking baby steps, so far I've only adjusted my rev limiter tables, but I am learning a little bit every time I open the program.

Details on my build and HP numbers in sig.

Both places I lived and needed tunes was $300ish for street tune and $100 more for dyno. Around $500 seems about right to me. More than that and I’d shop around if more than one reputable shop
