Hill Hold M6

My M6 ZL1 does not always hold without rolling back. There is an incline near my home at a stop light for which my M6 usually holds it's position when I start out after the light turns green when taking my foot off the brake. On occasion, it does not hold and rolls back. This really throws me a curve because I expect it to hold but it sometimes doesn't so I have to react quickly to not look like I don't know what I'm doing.

What would cause this intermittent change?

Mine is also not very reliable. From everything I've seen on this site along with the Vette forums, Hill Assist is finicky. I have a hill close to work that it holds 80% of the time. When it didn't hold, it used to throw me off. Now I treat EVERY hill like it will roll. The hill assist is too sporadic for me to trust.

I don't rely on it. I do what I would normally do, just gas it and go. My 5th gen ZL1 was so intrusive you had to do that. This one is not near as bad.

For the hill hold assist you have to be at a certain grade. Just being on a hill won’t engage the system. Additionally, your position on the hill matters as it influences the grade. Lastly, there’s a message that pops up on the DIC when hill hold is engaged.

Completely agree it was extremely intrusive on the 5th gen. Can't tell you how times I stalled as a result of hill assist. While it's not as intrusive on the 6 gen, it still comes on when you don't expect it and doesn't come on at all when you're expecting it.

I honestly wish GM would have just left the feature off entirely. People who regularly drive a manual know how to deal with moving forward on an incline. I always feel the feature was put there for those just learning how to drive with a manual transmission.

My 5th gen 1LE is the same. I honestly wish it didn't have it at all.

mine works great, never intrusive and only comes on when I need it..
I still treat all hills as if I don't have it but then I look down and I see the message come up and I say wow that was pretty cool..

As an alternative , on a hill with a vehicle close behind you can simply set the e brake, when you gas it will automatically release.

My driveway has a grade and sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't. I don't count on it.

You can swap out the yaw sensor with one from a 5th gen automatic, those don't come with hill assist. It's the 1st thing I swapped out when I had my '15 SS/1LE.

^^^THIS.

It's too inconsistent to take a chance in that scenario. OP, you are not alone.

I wish it was something we could turn off, as I don't trust it and prefer consistent behavior vs sometimes works, sometimes doesn't and makes for jerky off the line behavior.

It seems like GM over-corrected for the 6th gen.

I wish they would just give us a button to activate it when we feel like we need it. We all know those terrible uphill intersections when the system would be highly valuable.

Actually, our e-brakes work like it. So being able to shutoff hill start and just use the e-brake would probably be more intuitive.
