I've been in Arizona for approximately 2 months now. I need to find some good (read: twisty) driving roads north of Phoenix because driving a 1LE on the grid pattern of roads and highways that compose the Phoenix metropolitan area is depressing. My previous home of Northern California certainly had its drawbacks (e.g., high cost of living, liberal state politics, etc.), but there were numerous two-lane roads and highways that were simply awesome to drive. Yeah I agree... unfortunately you have to drive a bit to get to some good roads.

Some roads off the top if my head:

88 out to Canyon Lake/ Tortilla Flats
Yarnell Hill (tends to have cops)
Continue on 89 from Yarnell to Prescott, some nice twisties on the way.
Then Prescott to Jerome has some pretty crazy stuff as well.

87 to Payson.. Starts out straight but gets better.
Down south there's the mount lemon road.. I've never been there though.
60 out to globe has some, but mostly boring.
The road out from carefree to bartlett lake I think was ok. I don't remember
If you are ever in Flagstaff, definitely take a drive up snowbowl road.

I'm sure others have some suggestions.

I live in North Phx.. if you take a trip, be sure to post here. I might be interested in the trip..

Thank you for the suggestions! I was just telling my wife that I would like to explore Northern Phoenix and beyond, as it appears to be less populated. We currently reside in Maricopa but are open to moving north when our lease agreement expires.

And, likewise, if you want to plan a drive be sure to keep us informed!
