Because Bridgestone RE-71R is practically any frequent Autocrosser's go-to tire. It's discontinued now but the demand is still pretty high since North America doesn't have its successor here yet. You can practically bet that half of the cars at any given Autocross event use RE-71R.

No, I agree with yellow bb. Outside of the re-71, the whole of Bridgestone lineup is pretty lackluster in my opinion.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread at all, I'm really wondering about these Indy 500s as well. I'm about to put a set on my Miata (225/45/17) which I'm sure will work well on such a light car and saw I can get these in 285/35/19 and 325/30/19 which I could mount on a set of 19" Apex wheels. I mostly just track my car though, it's not a daily, and the only downside is that it's around 2 hours drive to the track each way so 200 treadwear tires are a bit rough for that. Oh and the stock G3s really suck in the rain otherwise they're a great tire, anything past 60mph and they're scary hydroplaning. Anyone else use these on the track a fair bit with decent results?

I don't know if how many people are tracking the 500, you might google the RE003A(?) Bridgestone tire and see what you come up with, it's the same tire just domestically sold under Firehawk name that does has really good reviews under than name from overseas.

I'll chime in.
The Indy 500 is a good tire for the money. I have them on my M3 and the only downside is the very soft sidewall which results in a floaty feel. Having said that, I will be trying something different next time (Potenza Sport - see below). I am a big Bridgestone fan and having owned several sets of RE71R. The earlier post about this being a (former) go to tire for AutoX is correct. BTW - until the next Bridgestone is released, the spiritual successor to the RE71R is the Falken RT660. Similar tread, sidewall stiffness, grip. As for other Bridgestone products, I found the RE11 (discontinued) to be one of the all time greats for combined street/track. I have also recently tried out the new Potenza Sport which is shaping up to be a good Michelin PS4S alternative with slightly stiffer sidewalls for better feel. You might want to check this one out as a more expensive Indy 500 alternative.

Loved it at the price point. Great 7/8 tenths tire.
