I have the Range AFM disabler on my 2017 RS and it works great no more v4 to v6 lag or shudder. The lights are a non issue as they point toward the floor and are very dim. At $360 Canadian it was a bit pricey to get here but after the first drive well worth it....

if you had a shudder when in "v4" mode then you have an entirely unrelated problem that sticking to V6 mode is just masking...not preventing.
it means you are starting to have water accumulation in the trans fluid impact torque convertor functionality. You should switch to the new fluid prior to this problem being felt in v6 mode...which is just a matter of time. |

FWIW, I have had a Range device on my car for about two years now and cannot imagine driving without it connected.
Every so often I have unplugged it just to remind myself of why it is there. And then I plug it back in again as quickly as I can because I absolutely hate the way the AFM works and makes the car feel. As NBCamaro said, the lights aim at the floor and act more like a footwell light. I don't even notice them any more. Oh, and no battery drain issues with mine either. Way to ruin a car just to gain a lousy mpg or so GM...! As for the transmission shudder, like cellsafemode said, change your transmission oil before it's too late. Do not postpone this. I changed mine long ago, and so far so good. It is a relatively simple DIY job and there are YouTube videos and writeups in this forum that will show you how to do it in great detail.

Maybe "shudder" was a poor choice of words I had the trans fluid change done last year and I don't think the Range module would mask the transmission shudder problem....
Like DIYguy said once you have the Range plugged in you have to pull it to remember just how bad driving without it really is.... |

I unplugged it and started out for the grocery store. I got about a mile down the road before plugging it back in. Happy once more.

Does the manual trans also drop to 4 cylinders?

No, AFM is disabled on cars with the 6-speed manual, they receive the skip shift feature instead. The hardware (lifter kit) is unfortunately the same, however, at least on the V8.
