Maybe your rates went up from you "Having recently totaled my Camaro 2SS"
It might have gone up even if you were not at fault. I'd try another insurance company. If your grandpa or parent were in the military and USAA members that would be the best place to end up.

This doesn't explain all of the examples above, but rates are also based on average loss data insurance companies have compiled on the various cars. Smaller, lighter cars often suffer more total losses than larger, heavier cars, for example. If they expect to potentially pay-out more on Model X than Model Y, then the premiums will be higher on Model X for the same driver - regardless of the sales price of the vehicles (or "betterness" of one over the other). Oh - and there is probably some bullshit in their decision-making process as well...

Oh, and tripowergto, I should mention:
I have 9000 miles on my leased Volt this year. I paid $250 in gas. The entire year. And only so that I could take a longer trip to visit my mom each month. I think you'll save a whole lot more than the $100/year you pay more on insurance. Padre |

I'll add that we got over $11,000 back in Rebates for buying our Volt, we've put over 10K miles and have only used 44 Gallons of Gas total whereas a Camaro SS would most likely use over 500 Gallons and spend around $2,000 in gas versus <$500 for a slightly higher annual electric bill for charging the volt. The Volt is a more expensive and new car, hence the reason for the higher insurance.
