Darn it. I keep overlooking that. OP keep your eye on the member's classified ads on this site. You can get some really good deals on axle back and cat back systems here. Someone is selling a GM PP axle back for $350 right now. That's a great deal and those sound good.

Ah nevermind, now I remember axle back is a muffler delete thats why I can't do that.
You can get an axle back that is not a muffler delete. Cat back has really negligible gains on a mostly stock car.

As for a cold air intake, there is the Z-28 intake from GM, Roto-Fab, CAI brand, etc. They are all good. Search the forum and read up. Take your pick.
He has a Manual so no need to worry about the resonator it will be nice and loud.

I live in PA, Longtube Headers, Hi flow cats, no mufflers. Passed twice with muffler delete no problems (2 different shops)

Is it because LS3's don't have the midpipe like a L99 that an axle back won't work? I know of a LS3 in the York, PA area that only has Solo axle backs and I would be surprised if they can't pass inspection with it.

Since you need mufflers for your state inspection I suggest the Solo Catback as it sounds great and will end up in your price range if you go with a combo deal. I have the Stainless Retro Chambered exhaust installed and I love the sound but it cost a little more.
I was going to recommend Solo and Roto-fab. That's what I have on my Camaro and I LOVE it!! Sounds like a Camaro should! Deep rumble and zero drone, then when you get on the go pedal the car screams! Go Solo, you won't regret it and you can't go wrong with Roto-fab, they're stuff is absolutely top notch!

You're in PA...go with Pypes. They are local and cheap. I may be biased.

I have the Solo axleback with J-pipes and I still have my factory resonator (L99). How well will this same setup sound if I go with LT Headers with HF cats and keep my factory resonator?

If you are adding headers I would go ahead and install an x-pipe and get rid of the resonator. It is heavy and muffles the sound a lot.

I'm no expert and most of what I know I've learned through extensive and careful reading here on C5. Great members and vendors eager to share. Of utmost importance is that you know what you want. Once that is established, I guarantee you someone here will have the perfect solution. One great piece of advice I picked up here and used to my great benefit was "work from the engine back". IMHO, there's not much point to making noise if its not the result of a performance increase. Headers into the OE catback will give the best performance and a noticeable improvement in sound quality and volume without overdoing it. Then, if you want more, you can modify the mid-pipe and or mufflers. There have been many threads on C5 bemoaning starting with the mufflers.

Will my Solo axleback with J-pipes still stop unwanted drone with the x pipe? Will this be to loud......My Solo exhaust has no mufflers, just j-pipes? Should I go with a complete cat back exhaust after my header install? Thanks for your response.

I don't quite follow you there. Anyway, I was looking for a certain level of sound (not too loud unless I goose it) and I figured removing the resonator would make it louder (inside and out) than I wanted.

My advice....get a decent cai ( most of the name brands are good) , then save your money for the supercharger and longtubes. Get it all done and tuned at once. Problem most run into is getting cat back before headers....then finding it too loud when they do.

tri-y headers

I don't street race, but paddling up and down has a muscle car rumble that is intimidating to other drivers.
Ive been looking into the tri-y header set up. do you think there is any performance difference to traditional LTs?
can anyone else comment on the question?
TRI-Y HEADERS OR TRADITIONAL LONG TUBES???

Everything I've read would point me to a CAI brand cai. Enclosed box and don't have to move the wiper fluid tank. Good looking and good gains for the $. Cold Air Industries is the way I'd go if I were in the market for a cold air intake, no doubt. Exhaust I can't speak on. I like the old Flowmaster 40 series but I don't think they make those anymore.
