Is this normal for stock Ls3 block 14k miles?

95K miles on mine When I swapped heads. My pistons be rockin.....
Pistons are designed that way where the top of the piston is smaller than the bottom because of heat expansion at running temps.

That movement is really not rocking there is some clearance in the ring lands, but what you do not want is the piston skirts to rock which can cause the rings to flex and unseat, which is one of the benefits of hypereutectic pistons which are in the LS3. Due to hypereutectic pistons not expanding like forged pistons the piston to cylinder clearances are much closer to provide a better seal and prevent rocking.

Don't hurt to double check but don't allow yourself to get paranoid...then mistakes happen b'cuz your always doubting yourself...in other works don't go lookin for probs that don't exist...(14k mi motor with O probs before head/cam work will not suddenly develop piston rock..get it?)

not slammin ya but hope to save you some aggravation...this should be fun...peace out...

BTW - get that sig in...helps ALOT!

There of course are different types of rings/ pistons for different purposes and clearances also needed for more nitrous friendly ;versus Blown ;or just N/A, stroked, etc.... and different compression ratios all to take into account. Along with all the bolts being TTY torque to yield needing replacement with head removals along with the new head gasket that can also be for different purposes.... Good Luck
I run special short skirt pistons made by race tech just for being stroked so long ;they are different in ring lands / crown and skirt design and are forged with valve reliefs and 11;1 compression net with stock cc heads, (mine are ported), and my block was clearanced and my aftermarket oil pan windage tray. For my connecting rods and stroke and rotating assembly being balanced even better than GM internally balances the stock LS engine. True piston rock is more a problem with the piston at the bottom of its stroke with a longer stroke not at the top BTW and a reason specifically to have pistons designed for the purpose as the LS3 engine has the sleeves cast into it and the sleeves extend past the block joined to it and therefore have to clearanced just as in the con rods touching the cylinder wall also the bolts on the con rods have interference when stroked. Happy Motoring.
