They probably did not put enough oil. It happened to me with my 5th gen. When I checked the receipt before leaving, it shows 6 quarts when it should have been 8 quarts.

Gonna get my first oil change this week. Just checked it. I’m surprised how dirty it is at 850 miles.

It's not dirty, most of the new engines turn oil black relatively quickly these days. You can't tell anything anymore by the color of the oil.

Yeah. I assume it’s because it’s a new engine.

Wish I could change it myself. Some health issues prevent me from doing it. Oh well.

This is why I went through the hassle of changing the oil in my SS 1LE myself. Been burned too many times with scenarios like this. Sorry to hear this happened but I'm not surprised it did.

dealer only put 6 quarts in mine the first change. i drove right up in front of service office, forced the service manager go out check it. lets just say the tech had a bad day after that. after the 2 free changes i started doing it myself. if you are physically able the filter is very easy to change on this car.f

Yeah but that is not an excuse. Especially knowing the car was all new for 2016 the techs should know, at minimum, they should refer to the owners manual just to be sure.

The fact that they don’t is downright scary. They’re working on cars people spent a lot of their own money on so the owners are going to be picky and have every right to be.

But they should be doing that with EVERY car, even a base Cruze. It’s Good practice.

I meant the oil is dirty because it’s a new engine breaking in at 850 miles.
