All I can say is I really hope you get it resolved in your favor and that GM actually shows you that they care for their customers...but in reality... be prepared because this is likely going to be an uphill battle.

For those who have responded other than the OP, the powertrain warranty is 5yr / 60k miles.

OP if the dealer replaced the diff then they should have updated the stub axle bolts then. The issue originally wasnt the bolts shearing, it was that they were not torqued correctly at the factory from possibly not having the correct thread locker on them.

My view is this falls under the original dealer since they had the diff out of the car. Once that diff was replaced it absolved GM of any issues in regards to the TSB on the axle bolts.

Here's a get out of jail free card:

It's a Known Product Failure

Reference the TSB for documentaion

GM covers KPF, if the dealer service manager approves it.

TSB only work while the vehicle is under the manufacture warranty, once out they dont cover the issue at no cost. Also the OP said a dealer had pulled and replaced the diff in the car at the 25k mile point, that then would have required the diff bolts to be address and changed as well.

The differential was replaced in December of 16. The TSB came out in Feb of 17.

Some time in 2017. My 1LE has the longer bolts and serrated washers. So does my buddy’s SS.

Do you know the build date on your car?

Just wanted to update: GM has agreed (after a lot of back and forth) to cover my repairs under warranty. This includes a speed sensor harness that was damaged and installing new bolts, retainers and lock washers on the other axle. I have to give props to Marine Chevrolet on this. They went to bat for me and refused the first offer of 40% and demanded full payment under warranty.

Addressed by GM sometime in '17....I suppose that means all '16's have short, potentially undertorqued bolts?

I have an early '17, just to be on the safe side, I guess I'll get underneath to see what bolts and washers I have.
