2LS Differential question

Hey I own a 2015 2LS with the 2.92 carrier and gears and i was wondering if i could just buy and install an LT 3.27 open carrier and install it in without needing any other parts or will i still need to buy hubs etc...

Thanks

Mike

I'll have a 3.27 diff, axles, and hubs available at a real good price in a few weeks...

My SS stuff is getting shipped out today. I'll get it Friday. Then I'm on vacation until Feb. 1st. When I get back I'll do the swap, hopefully it won't take long. Only 21k miles on it and has had the fluids changed every 10k. Probably let the whole shooting match go for $400.

Ok. It's probably going to be around 2/10 before I have it out.

Is someone able to confirm this is a direct swap without any modifications or additional parts... literally just pull the 2LS diff and swap in an auto LT diff?

I also have a 2015 2LS and am trying to figure out my best option for upgrading my rear end in terms of performance. Considering the Richmond ring and pinion swap which Im told just drops into the existing 2LS diff with no modification whatsoever.

I do not know about the 2LS/LT auto diff swap, if you need to swap axles and the hubs. Maybe someone else can chime in with that information.

The Richmond 3.55 Ring and Pinion set does fit the the 2LS carrier and your current axles and hubs would remain the same. There is more to swapping out the ring and pinion set than just un bolting the old one and bolting in the new one. There are one time use bolts, end play and gear engagement issues. If you haven't done this before and are unfamiliar with the process, it's best to have a professional do the job. As setting it up with the wrong engagement or backlash can ruin the gear set. Check around it should be around 300 dollars.
Going from the 2.92 to the 3.27 gear will improve your acceleration, but going to the 3.55would give you a much more dramatic change. The old school rule of thumb, just for guesstimation purposes is for every .1 you increase your rearend gear ratio, you will approximately lower your 1/4 mile et. by .1. I believe the factory stated time for the 2LS is 14.8 and the auto LT is 14.4 and the difference in the rearend ratios is .35. So going to the 3.55 should put you around 14. Seconds or so. Like I said this is all just an estimation, as lots of variables are entailed in a 1/4 mile run/time. Hope this helps you.

Would it be as easy with a 3.27 going to 3.55? Just a ring and pinion swap?
