So I may have an issue with my new ZL1

OK so I just got my car a few days ago and yes yes I know you dont buy these cars for fuel economy but... I have 423 miles on the odometer and the cars been through 37 gallons of gas!!!! if i have done my math right thats 11.4 miles to the gallon. IM in break in and im not going over 4000k rpm or giving it any hell all of the driving has been mostly flat highway driving. My buddy with the same exact car who also just got his not but a week or so before me and drives under the same conditions is getting 21 average mpg.

Something is not right im driving the car gently and on level ground and under 4000 rpm and the gas needle can almost be watched going down. I know mileage aint great but only getting 11.4 on highway at normal steady 60mph speeds.... something aint right.

like i said i have used 37 gallons of gas at this point and only gotten 423 miles out of it. im fine with 21 highway and the 13 city but 11.4 highway... hell if i do get on it whats it gonna be 6 mpg LOL gezzzz..

I guess ill get dealer to hook it up and check things out.

I have a 2021 ZL1 with about 1800 miles. I get about 12-13 mpg, mostly city driving. The best I have ever got was 20mpg on the highway cruising in 10th gear and 65mph. I am not sure how you can average 21mpg combined in this car, maybe a very, very light foot.

and yes once you start putting your foot in it you will probably get 6-8mpg. Some going all out on the track get 3-4mpg.

Supercharger, more air, more fuel.

You can reset the fuel average and see what your real number is.

I believe I read somewhere that fuel consumption may be more during break in period. I certainly didn't get this car to be concerned with gas but it is a consideration for others.

I mean I get it i understand its a supercharged car and all. but like i said Im only getting 11 cruising on flat highway at the speed limit I made a 50ish mile trip (53 I think) all level and flat all 65 miles per hour. I filled up before i left and then filled up again at end of trip and used 5.2 gallons on just a 50ish mile trip thats bad MPG even for city driving I should be getting way better on flat highway. also in touring mode from a start 1st through 3rd sorta lag and chug to get going like its bogging down. I think they might be related??

Possibly. Sounds like it is running rich. You are using premium fuel, correct? I would reset the fuel calculator and see what your instant MPG is when you are cruising. On the highway you should be able to get up in the high teens low 20s at light cruise and when you let off the instant MPG figure should climb much higher as you coast.

Yes I didn't get it to be concerned with gas either but only getting 11 mpg on level highway something is wrong and its not so much about the money but there is obviously something not right in the engine as its burning way to much fuel. I also am not going by the computer and never trust those I do the math the old fashion way miles traveled by fuel put in. I mean a computer can tell me all day long im getting 21 mpg but if i fill a tank up and then drive 50 miles and then to refill i need 5.2 gallons well thats about 10 miles to the gallon no matter what the computer says.

Thanks but like I said to the other guy. The computer is saying one thing but I know it is not right. I did reset it and my instant fuel economy was saying 24 mpg.... well in a 50 mile trip that would be 2 gallons. I used 5.2 gallons My actual fuel use would indicate that the computer is not correct. and why I say something is wrong. Ive track how much fuel gallon wise has gone in the car since I bought it including the 2 gallons from the factory. it has used exactly 37 gallons since mile zero. I am at mile 423. My trip B has not been reset since i bought it. it says im getting 23 mpg. so 423 miles divided by 23 mpg is 18.3 gallons of gas I should have used by now. i have used 37 gallons in 423 miles which is 11.4 mpg not 23 mpg. The computer is wrong Im using twice what it says I am. Like i said something is wrong somewhere. and no matter what there is no way it should only be getting 11.4 mpg on flat level high way going 65. and yes im using premium fuel 93,

If it is running rich is that something the dealer can detect and fix?

Pull the battery cable off and leave it for a few hours. Then reconnect and go rip on it. The fuel trims will learn and it will lean out and get proper gas mileage. Your baby driving is killing it. Stop that, this is not 1950 where you need to drive a car thousands of miles before you beat on it. Seat those rings and enjoy a healthy motor.

Your gas mileage does sound very heavy but I got to tell you my Hellcat Challenger got better mileage than I ever have from my ZLE. Like others have said maybe run it a little harder see we’re it settles.

It should improve after the break-in, but 11.4 when you aren't into the throttle and you aren't crawling in the city either is way off. If the dealership can't find anything wrong and there are no codes either, get yourself an HP Tuners MPVI2 device, data log the car and competent folks here will probably be willing to take a look.

fill it up, reset the trip meter, drive it around how you normally drive. fill it back up when you want, divide the miles on the trip meter by the gallons pumped. report back to thread.

I've been logging my brand new 21 ZL1 and its trying to run RICH as shit. both long term fuel trims are between -25 and -15 while cruising. So the stock tune is very rich and the car is trying its best to pull fuel out to keep it at stoich. Which by the short term fuel trims being close to 0 at the same time, means the car is doing what its supposed to. But still these are very rich from the factory and can pick up huge from a simple 91/93 tune.

so me and my buddy have done the math. if you can follow LOL. He looked up all his receipts for his gas and his mileage. He has spent 440 dollars on going 2070 miles. My mileage is 37 gallons in 423 miles. so im at 166.50 dollars for my 37 gallons. our gas had been 4.50 give or take for the last week that i been driving. thats right at 40 cents a mile. so fo rme to drive the same 2070 miles he has i would have to spend 814.78 cents. dang near double which coincides with my average of 11.4 miles per gallon. which is about half what mpg hes getting.

we both live in same place on same roads in same driving conditions. and he actually is very hard on his car. something is wrong... I feel the bogging down on acceleration has something to do with it. its very hesitant to get up and move and when you do give it gas is sorta hesitates while my buddies car just takes off...
