LT1 engine blown!

Hi there!,
one of my friends has just come across a very very sad experience: overtaking on the highway his 2016 Camaro SS LT1 engine has litterally blown!! He has seen hard metal noises coming from the car and some smoke. He stopped immediately but the damages were done: his mechanic has just told him that his LT1 6,2L engine literally has a big hole on the passenger's side of the cylinder bank.
His car had no supercharger or any mechanical modifications and has run for very low mileage (about 28,000 miles on the clock!)..

As I know, this is not a common issue for this V8 engine.. Did someone get through this very bad experience, too?

See you!!,

Very sorry to hear that, it's unusual and unexpected if he had no mods.

If the car is still under powertrain or extended powertrain warranty and there is dealer support in Italy, he should get a new engine from GM, provided the engine had indeed been untouched and received proper maintenance. They will probably want to do a full teardown and analysis.

Mine gave up the ghost at 93K............I was stretching it out getting on the interstate and it went POW!............Motor had a bad knock. I nursed it home doing 20mph...............I never knew what exactly went wrong cause I gave it back to the bank cause I still owed $20K..............It was fun while it lasted but it left me in financial ruin...........Never again!

I feel bad for people this happens too out of warranty. You’re looking at around 10k if you buy a used LT1 and pay to install it. Not sure how much rebuilds cost but obviously in your friends case he can’t rebuild.
