Looking for paint ideas

I’m thinking of repainting my White 2016 2SS Convertible. What makes this a difficult decision is the fact that my car has the Kalahari interior and top color. I love the interior. I like the top, but there’s no denying that just any old paint color will not look good with the kalahari top. Just wanted to get some insight and suggestions on here if y’all would oblige me!

Ive just gotten tired of the white. It seems like 80% of the cars on the road are white. I don’t necessarily want to stick out like a sore thumb; but I feel like it’s a somewhat special car and white just makes it invisible. I’ve been considering darker grey, black, and darker green (like racing green or midnight green). Would love to hear any other ideas and especially see pics.

Will add pics of current vehicle and what I’ve been looking at ASAP.

My advice would be to not paint the car at all, unless it is in such poor condition now that new paint would be justified. You really don't want to dig into factory paint unless you have to. Finding a shop to do an excellent job is going to be another story. I don't know how familiar you are with body shops either, but a full paint is going to cost $$$$.

IF you are set on changing the color, I would look into doing a (vinyl) wrap. It can be removed if you change your mind, or go to sell the car, and it also serves as great protection.

I agree with zaimer, a repaint will run you an insane cost. The car has to be disassembled almost completely for a proper job, otherwise you'll still see the old color in places, factory or better quality, say, having thicker and/or harder clear coat without a ton of orange peel, is also difficult to attain ($$$). You may even have problems and misunderstandings with the law, given your car is registered everywhere with a specific color, so this will come up again and again.

A vinyl wrap is a lot easier, cheaper and more flexible option, and much easier to justify to an officer if need be.

Or just sell and buy another one with the color your want. Way easier.

Appreciate the reply’s, y’all. I probably should have included that I have a hook up for paint. Will be quite a bit less expensive and it’s someone who I know well and he does a good job. Have seen dozens of his projects.

Yea, repainting is a bit over the top (no pun intended).

For the $, I’d but 1LE wheels and tires, factory or aftermarket wheels. Secondly, white with Kalahari would look awesome with gold metallic racing stripes.

I’m guessing the whole package would cost you less than $3K, if you go aftermarket on the wheels.

Edit... wrote this before I saw you said you had a hookup for paint.

i'll suggest a vinyl wrap like other have. Mine was satin steel, which does look really good. But realized later i wanted to get off of the grey scale (my last three cars have all been grey scale colors). I did a DIY wrap and it took me every bit of 50+hrs to complete. It was harder than i thought but i'm still don't regret taking in on. I'm already thinking about what color i might try next in a couple years.

I say don't do it, but if you gotta, Wild Cherry would look good with Kalahari

I have a garnet red (not convertible) and it looks fantastic with the kalahari. I have also seen the Rally Green with kalahari that looked absolutely wonderful. I really don't think you can make a wrong choice. As I have said in other posts, the Camaro really makes any color look good and the kalahari will just be the icing on top.

Have you thought about changing the color of the top? Might give you a new look.

Here is the color I did to mine (sorry this was the best pic I had of the colors shifting). I think it would match a little better with Kalahari than the red that I have.

I would not repaint, I’d say vinyl wrap and if you’re not a vinyl wrap person then trade it if the color bothers you that much. If you felt like you have to repaint it pick a non Camaro color. Maybe a C7 or C8 color or something custom.

In the end, it may well cost you your friendship. Mistakes and accidents can and do happen and any sort of issue could put unnecessary strain on the good relationship you have with them today.

Wrap or Plasti-Dip if you're completely set on changing the color. Never, EVER touch factory paint unless you're doing a full resto type of project.
