New member needs a blower
I'm old so I still call it a blower. I finally got to post. Thank you. I have a 17 as with an a8. Not to many of you guys live at 5000 so a lot of want I've read doesn't apply. My background is I had an 04 cobra with a 3.4 here that made 640/641 at 19 lbs of boost. Wife was scared to death to drive it. Even with et streets. . I dont want anything with no traction like it. I'd be happy with 550 and the nannies on for the wife. Here the smart guys are guessing it s making maybe 350 here. It runs like a pig. My opinion. Sooo
A supercharger is in order for it. Yes cost is an issue. Lethal is having a 15% off sale for black friday. Edelbrock quoted 10% off for a 2650 kit. Magnuson reads well but are way more expensive. The whipple is still 500 cheaper. I like the idea of a canned tune as I dont want to make hugh power like you guys and can still road trip the car. What do you guys think as you have a wealth of information Some learned the hard way. Remember whatever I do I'll lose 2 to 3 lbs of boost. Thank you |

ditchsnake, now that the big Heartbreaker Maggie came out, you should be able to secure a great deal on the older Heartbeats (2300), and the Magnuson tune should be good for the power level you want. That said, however, I would still get a custom tune dialed in for you car, especially if you have the A8 trans.
My car is just about perfect for the street, makes 560 rwhp here in NJ, drivability is excellent with Ted Jannetty's tune and even wifey can drive it (in snow/ice mode, haha). There are several reputable tuners even here on the forums, I'm sure you can find one who will remote tune your car. I know a good tune ain't cheap, but that's not where you want to skimp, peace of mind is king IMO, especially when you can save thousands on the blower itself. I recall someone selling a kit a few weeks ago here, definitely worth a search. Good luck

Colorado Springs here with a ZL1, just put on an eforce 2650 and tune and made ~130+WHP extra. Was just going for getting back some of the lost pressure and HP and made even more. Could not be happier.

Thank you. NJ great air. Ted suggested a 2300. He was a great guy to talk too. Really smart. Would love to go with him. Magnuson is offering 5% off. I cant ever get ahold of someone to talk to there. Maybe some vendors can send a PM. With a 2300 I d have to re pulley and lose canned tune. Some of they guys living here might know exact boost loss but I keep hearing 2 to 3 lbs

Generally you'll see 2-3 psi between sea level and your 5000 ft elevation. Usually 5mm pulley change will make up much of that, however if you have headers plus free flowing exhaust may need a little more of a pulley change. A 2300 Heartbeat is a great choice for the amount of power you want to make. The 2300 kits come with a 98mm pulley and going down to some where around a 90 mm will bring you back into the normal psi that you'd be at for sea level. You have a PM.

Replayed to your pm. If you go with a smaller pulley and stay under factory sea level boost why couldn't t a person use magnuson canned tune and reinstall factory pulley when we road trip lower with same tune. I couldnt open your last sale pm. Thank you

Just a comment on the canned tune from Magnuson. I have seen an SS with it (2300 blower and canned tune from Magnuson) and the performance was underwhelming. My suggestion is, get a custom tune if you are going through all the trouble and expense of installing a blower.

Since its been a while but maybe you forget that my 10.82@129 was on the canned tune when I first put my blower on with a drag pack and my car made 549/550. Doesn't seem underwhelming to me.

That is a good deal. I have seen both kits(Whipple/Maggie). Also witnessed the install of a Maggie on a 6th gen and helped install a 2300 on a C7Z. Both are great, the Whipple has a bigger heat exchanger and surge tank. Whipple takes a little more effort to install, but looks a bit better imo. The 2300 and 2.9 are both very capable. I'm sure Magnuson chief of staff will be here to tell us all how much better they are. Just do your research and decide for yourself.

Any one of these blowers will far exceed his goals, to gain a touch of power, to get back to sea level power.
So fit and finish on each and ease of install for each, which wins? I only have experience with the eforce 2650 and I can say it was a perfect fit and finish. What do these kits do for fueling on the LT1?
