I do think that your car looks pretty slow for being a ZL1. Look at Sibze's timeslip for example, and note the mph at the 1/8 and 1/4 compared to yours. I saw an A10 running last summer, looked stock on the SC3 tires, and even hot-lapping it (not giving the supercharger time to cool between runs), he was still getting 11.4~11.6 at 123~124 mph.

There is nothing wrong with the car. It is a brand new car with very low mileage and it was your first time at the track in it. These cars do 11.4 bone stock with a pro driver. You got a 12.1 on your first outing and you are not a pro driver. That means you are only 7 tenths off from the best that a pro driver did and you were on your first outing. So just practice your launches, get more seat time, and you'll be in mid 11s after 2-4 more outings.
For the record, my 1st time out was a 12.3 and a 12.1. My second time out was a 12.2 and a 12 flat. My third time out was an 11.8 and a 12 flat. So seat time alone was worth 5 tenths (half a second) which is a lot. That 11.8 came with stock tire pressure, no burnout, in sport mode, no launching, and no paddle shifting. I just left it in Drive, feathered the pedal until it hooked, floored it once it caught, and stayed in all the way. My best MPH was 122. So in 3 runs without using all the tricks and tools available, I came within 4 tenths of a pro driver. That says a lot about how well these cars are in the quarter mile. If I had more seat time and used the special track modes and lowered my tire pressure and did a small burnout and launched it and used the paddle shifters then I'm sure I would have been able to get 11.4-11.6 if not faster. So just give it time. |

I am with some others....that trap speed is low. My 1993 Z28 auto made 350-400rwhp (depending on dyno) at the wheels and ran 8.9 at 90mph in the 1/8th. 11.9 at 113 in the quarter on DOTs. I dont care about traction issues or 60fts or anything...that MPH is low for some reason.

First off, work on you 60 foot. Second, get the rear tire pressure down to the low 20s and the front to upper 30s or lower 40s.
Drag racing is different then road course racing. Don't worry about launch control. Leave it in sport and D, let the transmission shift for you. Do the old school one foot on brake and the other on the gas to load the RPMs to a certain range, lets say 1500. Then launch and control your throttle input while you're gaining speed then once it feels solid you can stay 100% into the throttle. Burnouts aren't so important on non drag radials but you can still do them if you want but only for a couple of seconds to clear them off. Everyone else has good advice but I didn't see anything about actually what to do to when launching. Another question, how many times have you drag raced before taking the ZL1? |

What he said ^ all good points.
The most obvious thing I think you need is seat time. |

Bleed out the system. I did this on a customers ZL1 at the dealership with the same problem of it feeling slow and I confirmed this on the test drive with the customer. It just didn't have the balls down low. We bled the system and all is good according to the customer.

If I were you, I would ignore reaction time entirely. It is unneeded pressure as you are hunting for you best run. At least that's what I do. I don't particularly care what car is next to me as I am racing myself essentially. I have seen it so many times where people focus on reaction times way too much. Watch the tree turn green and then take your time launching it. Once you are better, you can work on the reaction time. This is just my advice of course and I have yet to have my ZL1 to the track, but I have drag raced another vehicle I had and this got me the best times.

450 hp to the ground
According to the HP calculator, a 4K pound car with a 113 trap speed in the 1/4 mile is only using 450 hp. So, you are not putting 200 hp to the ground for some reason. It may be the "nannys", your driving, or the car, but, something is not right.

This exactly, I am going to run mine down the strip hopefully soon and when I do the first time will be on street tires. I wont even worry about my ET. I just want to see what kind of MPH the car pulls to see if its making all the power up top its supposed to. |

There are so many variables which can impact et and trap seed at the strip. I would not put too much stock in a HP calculator which is going to “assume” no variables whatsoever.

Dyno the car first!
1. If you don't have the HP, check air in system, leaks, etc. 2. If you have the HP, need more seat time, check tire PSI, get 100+ Octane fuel, etc. |
