Performance Oil?

So I’m sitting here at the Chevy dealership getting an oil change for my 2ss and they said there is two types of synthetic oil and one is for performance driving. Does anybody else get this kind of oil in their SS Camaro??

I think you need more details about how they are differentiating. I use Mobil1 ESP. I have no idea if that falls into their "performance" oil category.

I think they might be asking you if you want 0 or 5 weight. track time you put in 0w30 and normal driving 5w30.

Its likely just synthetic 5w30 or the M1 esp 0w40. Which if you look in the manual, one is acceptable for street use and the other more for track or "performance" driving.

Your car is a '20 so it should have come with 0W-40 ESP and that's what they should be putting in it. Shouldn't all dealerships be putting 0W-40 ESP in nowadays even if a '16-'18 MY?

This if available.

It is, to my understanding, retroactive to older year <19.

Otherwise 5/30 ESP.

oil SUGGESTION

Well the manual says to use 0-40W Mobil One for the track. AMSOIL however is a much better quality oil and they make in 0-40W full synthetic.

I prefer to run 15-50W AMSOIL when I track my car. It is about 15.00 a quart.

5W-30 is okay for street use, while a Dexos 2 0W-40 should be used if you are heading to a track and don't want to do oil changes after each track day.

So I guess ESP 0W-40 is a "performance oil" in this case.

No my 2017 ZL1 calls for 5w30 and that’s what I put in it when I change the oil.

When the 6th gen was launched, the oil recommendations / requirements for the V8's were:

Use 5W30 dexos1. If you are going to track the car, use 0W40 dexos2

In model year 2019 or 2020 (I forget which year), they reversed positions and stated:

Use 0W40 dexos2. If that is not available, 5W30 dexos1 is acceptable for street use.

In the end, it's a subtle change because they have changed the general recommendation to the "performance" oil while acknowledging that the other oil is perfectly fine for day-to-day use.

[EDITED to correct the dexos information on the 5W-30 oil]
