Oil brand makes my car feel different

Just changed my oil yesterday with Castrol Edge 5W30. Previously had Redline in it.

Might just be a placebo effect, but I think it definitely ran smoother with the Redline oil. Strange since both of them are the same viscosity and Dexos1 approved. It’s not that it’s running bad now... but I do feel a difference. I think. Or it might be all in my head lol.

Anyone else have the same experience when switching oil brands?

IME it's more likely to be gas but IDK... I just run the 0w40 M1 ESP that comes in the cars and is recommended by GM.

I could swear that my 2006 Pontiac GXP rode better/smooth right after I cleaned and vacuumed the interior.

It’s all in your head.

True. Since I don't do much out of town traveling I try and stick with a single gas station. The Shell 93 octane seems to make my car run better.

Yeah I think maybe my head was just trying to justify the 2.5x price I paid for the Redline LOL

It's in your head. If you're actually feeling a difference, then that probably means it's eating itself now.

When I changed my Mobil 1 0-40ESP, the engine sounded more muted and wasn't as rev happy. It wasn't placebo I assure you. I'm going back to 5w-30 and will see what happens next week. It got better with a few thousand miles though, but I didn't like those first few thousand as it was so different.

My ZL1 seems to run better with Lucas Synthetic oil 5w30 in it. Maybe in my head but...

I used to run Valvoline 5w-40 MST before they changed it in my 2017 and it ran awesome for 50k miles before I traded it. Considering trying the Havoline Pro DS 5w-40 or this Amalie 5W-40 Dexos https://www.amazon.com/Amalie-Elixer...01N6X1R9Pafter I use the last of my old Valvoline 5w-30 MST next week.
