In model year 2019 or 2020 (I forget which year), they reversed positions and stated:

Use 0W40 dexos2. If that is not available, 5W30 dexos2 is acceptable for street use.

In the end, it's a subtle change because they have changed the general recommendation to the "performance" oil while acknowledging that the other oil is perfectly fine for day-to-day use.
This is quite a good summary.

I think somebody was offered a bonus if they could double the number of oil threads on Camaro6 overnight!

My 17 ZL1 calls for 5w30 dexos1 for regular use and 0w40 dexos2 for the track.

Yeah, that's the right requirements for all Gen6 V8's. I always screw up the 5W30 piece because it's dexos1 Gen2 while the 0W-40 is dexos2.

I fixed my original post.

I thought the track oil was like 15w-50 or something?

Pretty sure that's the ZL1 1LE because of the added aero.

ESP 0W-40 isn't just a track oil. It's a street/track oil. It eliminates the need for 2 different oils for street and track use. It is the recommended oil for LT1, LT2 and LT4 in any GM vehicle now.

Good catch. High Performance Supplement shows this:

The LT1 and LT4 engines are factory filled with 0W-40 dexos2 oil. 0W-40 dexos2 engine oil is approved for both track and street use with the LT1 and LT4 (ZL1 only, not ZL1 1LE) engines. 15W-50 full synthetic engine oil may also be used for track use and is required on the ZL1 1LE, but after track use must be changed back to 0W-40 dexos2 for street use.

So, the ZL1 1LE is a bit unique in that you have to use 0W-40 for day-to-day and 15W-50 for the track.

Ahh makes sense, I only hazily remembered reading from the high performance supplement.
