2017 2SS vs 1SS safety features

I'm trying to decide between buying a 2SS or 1SS. I'm accordingly wondering how useful and effective are the three 2SS safety features that don't appear in the 1SS: Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist and Side Blind Zone Alert With Lane Change Alert. Do these Alerts contribute substantially to driver confidence in real world driving? I'm trying to decide if they're in themselves a solid argument in favor spending the extra $5k for the 2SS given the purportedly poor visibility from the camaro's cabin.

in terms of safety these features completely transform your driving experience and lower your insurance

I think they are great. Once I got used to them I wish I had them on my Cherokee. I don't think I'd buy a car without them in the future.

These 3 features certainly help, but I do not believe they alone are worth the $5k. However, many of the other features in the 2SS package are worth $5k, to include leather, heated/cooled seats, nav, bose.....etc

Blind zone alert saved me from many close calls due to careless drivers when switching lanes. The alert also helps me get around traffic with eaze. Not only does it alert you, but it also alerts the cars around you when the indicator flashes because they are getting too close while your trying to switch lanes.

Agree, almost completely. Nav is extra and not part of 2SS pkg.
The alerts do let you drive this car with a great degree of confidence. I always wanted the luxury options in the 2SS pkg, but limiting these safety systems to that package made the $5K leap a no-brainer for me.

I bought the 2SS over the 1SS for these features. They have saved me a couple times when someone slipped up and when I looked over my shoulder I didn't see them. To me, it was worth the investment due to the limited visibility toward the back of the car. If I had to buy the car again, I would spend the extra for them.. but that's just me.

Blind spot monitoring - honestly if you have your mirrors set right and pay attention in traffic, they really don't help much IMO

Rear cross traffic alert - surprisingly helpful, especially in those busy parking lots. With the restricted vision already to the aft sides of the car, this gives me much greater confidence backing out of a spot.

Rear park assist - Short of bad weather when the camera is covered by rain, haven't really felt it was that helpful. The backup camera with it's lines already make backing in easier once you get used to the camera.

Like others have said, these 3 by themselves are not worth the price of admission. But added in with all the other features of the 2SS makes the perfect package for a DD or Gran Tourer.

...when backing up? Cross detection is amazing. The OP is also from NY so heated steering and seats would be perfect in the winter. Cooled in the summer.

He was just asking about the safety features and I don't think they're worth $5k extra. But yeah, if he wants all the other features that come with 2SS then yeah, go for it.

I was evaluating the 1SS vs 2SS months ago before I ended up ordering my 2017 2SS.
For me the safety features alone don't add much value but the HUD and leather heated and ventilated seats do. Happy with my choice of 2SS
