Removing tail lights on 2019

It appears that you have to drop the bumper on a 2019 Camaro to get the tail light housings out. On the 2018 and earlier apparently that is NOT necessary.

I found this out the hard way when I tried to pull the tail light housings out AFTER taking off the 3 nuts that hold them in place. On the 2019, the bumper overlaps the bottom of the taillight housing enough so that even when the nuts are off, they aint coming out.

Of course I never claimed to be a body man so unless someone else has some super special way of doing this WITHOUT pulling the bumper off, PLEASE ADVISE!!! LOL

I have a paint guy that is going to smoke them for me and then shoot clear on them. Depending on how they turn out, I will take some pics and post up next week.

Glad I found this, was following a YouTube video on removing the taillights for a 2016-2018, and when it was instructing to pull with force, and had second thoughts and found this thread! Many thanks!

Like the OP said, you need to remove the rear fascia. The way the fascia interfaces with the lamps is new for the 19+, so that is how it is.
You will find two orange grommets that grip onto grooved studs on the OB portion of the lamp, even closer to the side of the car than the center threaded stud. That is what requires the added tug. I have found that a light/medium hit, straight down on the top of the lens at the centerline, will help free up hose clips if they are being stubborn.
Generally those clips have enough life in them to do a couple of installs. If you have your lamps in and out more often, for whatever reason, get some fresh ones.

I realize this discussion is a year old but wanted to reply since the prior responses really helped me with my recent project. Thank you all for the help. I swapped my red stock tail lights for the GM dark-tinted ones. They look AWESOME, especially on a black car. Definitely worth the effort.

If it helps to confirm what others have stated: yes, unfortunately, the rear bumper fascia needs to be removed for the 2019. Was initially scared to do this, but it wasn't too bad. There are decent YouTube videos for this. One piece of advice I can give is that it helped to remove the rear wheels. This provides a lot more room to remove the small screws that hold the inner fender piece. It beat fiddling around with special 90-degree tool attachments.

Here are some pics from the instructions that show the nuts versus the studs that slide into locking clips. You can also see the nuts and bottom parts that sit under the bumper fascia.

Just throwing this out there, quick and easy and cheap, I just put headlight tint on the inner surfaces of the tailights. Took away the crazy headlight look of the tailights. I made a template for the 4 pieces and put 2 layers of Vivid light headlight tint. Checked to see how bright the brake lights were, then I put a 3rd layer on. Took about 2 hours and cost $25 for a roll.

Looks great!! I purchased similar pre-cut pieces on eBay when I had the original red lights. After I installed the dark-tinted ones I thought I didn't need them. But, now that I see yours, I will be puttin' them on. Thanks for posting!
