If I'm right here then we will probably see the Z/28 revealed at the same time as the Mid-Engine Vette or just after it.
This ^ I think is probably most likely case as well. Whatever powers the new mid engine vette will be the power plant for a Z/28. And I think we will have to wait for the Vette to break cover first

A more agressive blade spoiler, hood, and other aero bits could accomplish that.

As long as they keep the retail price +/- $60k, it could work. Like someone said above, it needs to be exclusive too, so keep production down to 500 units per year. There would be little R&D/manufacturing costs associated with the build because many of the parts are already sitting on G.M's shelves.
+1 I like where you are going.

Keep it light!!!; high revving N/A DOHC small block LT6 rumored from C8?
Hard mounted DSSV, less weight and tech with more adjustability; it's a track car.
CCB's optional, back seat optional.
Interior comforts; heavy electronic seats, carpet, audio, display and AC, optional; Those interior options if deleted drop the price significantly and allow for the buyer to select desired comfort and/or track readiness.

As you mentioned, it's all available on GM's shelves.

+1 on the DOHC small block and in even lighter trim. What better way to show off a new engine than proving it's worth on the track. While the 1LE is considered a track car by many, I have a different opinion, it's heavy.

If only to be a track car, you don't need all the options that come on a 1LE. I mean really, who needs power seats, Bose stereo and many others to race on a track. Only those options that make a difference on the track should be considered.

Personally, I plan to keep mine no matter what GM does.

That LS7 is going to be a rare gem in a few years.

GM has hinted at a sub 7 minute LT5 Gen 6 Camaro around the ring. Why create posts with dramatic click bait headlines?

If anything goes into the Z28 this generation it’ll be an LT5.

Not really. Al O has already said any future Z/28 would be n/a and good luck getting the LT5 away from the Corvette guys.

and as I said in another thread about that. let's see what the ZR1 does around the ring before we start thinking about a sub 7 camaro.

I agree, it's been speculation that the base mid-engine will have a H.O. LT1, if it exists. That is no doubt your Z/28 motor, GM has nothing else in the parts bin.

There is no validity to that time... just some guy standing trackside timing random testing laps with his phone

I saw that as well. Now I do think the ZR1 will crack 7:00 but IMO if barely cracks it like 6:59 or in that vicinity I don't see Camaro doing it.
