For the third brake light, you don't even need a fishing line or heat. The lamp is actually held in place by clips and the adhesive strip (that is really more for insulation than attachment) is relatively thick and foamy, easy to tear off without damaging the paint.

I think I used a plastic trim tool to pry the light away from the body, then cleaned off the gunky residue with Goo Gone.
+1! I followed the same process as arpad_m! I taped around the light as well just in case I slipped up

Congratulations as well on the GM Smoked Tail Lights! Haven't found a deal on them and ended up getting tinted tail lights. White part is clear...does change the look but not as nice as the factory smoked tail lights.

I have some plastic trim tools so I'll try that method. Is there even a need to remove the cloth trunk lid liner like I've seen people do in video's ?

Thanks I really got lucky to find these lights especially in Canada where stuff like this is much harder to find. I was thinking of tinting mine too if I couldn't locate the dark GM lights.

Good call on taping the paint around the 3rd brake light before working on it. Probably do the same around the tail lights too.

No need to pull the liner.

By the way, I was very fortunate to find a set of used OEM GM smoked tail lights on Facebook Market place for a really good price.

They were the last thing I needed to fully black out my 2017 SS.

That's one sinister beast right there, awesome car with tasteful mods

Yes I'd say the dark tail lights are a must on your car. Black is so nice but I don't envy the maintenance required to keep it looking like that. My previous Camaro was black and it drove me nuts. Love that total black out look though very nice.

I would put a bunch of tape under the tail light on the bumper. Get it as close to the tail light as you can. You can easily scratch your bumper while pulling the light out since they require a good amount of force to remove
