Hmm.. I was led to believe from previous posts it was calculated but not claiming that myself.

Here is 1 that goes into it somewhat but there are a few that all really seem to end the same with no real concrete details how it is accomplished.

On most it is in the right (passenger) side of oil pan. Combination oil level/temp sensor.

#8 is the oil cooler bypass valve. Not serviceable, it comes with the cooler.

part # 12603781 is the sensor. Use the parts breakout page that shows the oil pan.

That's good to know that is a combo sensor.

Odd that so much debate on a calculation method exist.

Thanks for the info! I found a real pic of the pan that shows the sensor sending unit socket as you said on the passenger side of the pan

See the below thread which demonstrates that the oil temp sensor does provide the real oil temp to the console gauge. Read post1 (which is an in depth primer on how the gen5 oil cooler and oil temp gauge works) and post4 on the affect on the oil temp console gauge when the oil temp sensor was removed. This was done on a '13 SS

Yeah.. so much back and fourth on this subject it’s amazing. I plan to do my own testing as I have also removed the oil heater and want to be sure what I’m looking at is accurate.
