How long does it take to get order #

After putting money down for a zl1 order, when should i receive my order #. I dont trust dealers around me exactly so hesitant to place order putting $1,000 down.

If the dealer has allocation, you should get an order code immediately. The status of your order may not move for a few days after that, because IIRC dealerships only submit orders to GM once a week, but it should be at 2000 ("Order Accepted by Chevrolet") after that.

As you can see from my signature, my order was at 1100 as soon as I signed the paperwork and 2000 the next day, the dealership didn't play any games. Of course that was pre-covid, but I don't think this part of the process would be different now.

I believe the order number is generated as soon as the dealer builds/enters it in the GM Workbench software. If they do not have an allocation at that time, it will just sit at 1100 until they receive an allocation.

I received an order number for a 2014 Stingray the day we entered it into the system. Due to constraints and limited allocations, I never did get that car. But I had an order number the whole time.

Wow this is what scares me. I have almost decided to try and find one up to 400 miles away and just drive and get it. Im trading in a vehicle so that adds another whole layer of awful lol

Aha, I thought the order code was generated by GM against an allocation, thanks for the clarification. This leaves a bit of a loophole, though, the dealer can tell the customer they have an allocation when they actually don't.

The order # does not mean there is allocation. You have an order # from the start.

This is true. I have a long story about that 2014 C7 order. Not a good story either

To the OP, I don't think you should have too much of an issue with a Camaro allocation. The only issue I could see delaying an order would be a constraint on a specific option.

Use Joe on the forum. He will have allocation (or soon anyway) and it could be shipped to your local dealer with courtesy delivery. Plus you can trust him.

As far as I know, Joe does trade-ins, too, you should definitely contact him.

His late wife, Becky created and maintaned the forum's order tracking thread (57K+ posts, 5.8M views, you have the link already) for years, and they are absolutely amazing people—the very definition of dream car salespeople that don't play stupid games, don't screw you over but give you fair deals and go out of their way to help, often personally delivering cars to customer's doors and even picking up their trade-ins.

They're true, classic, old school believers in customer service, in the best sense of the word.

Give Joe a chance.
