Zl1 1le. My airbag random exploded at thunderhill

It wasn't the first. It won't be the last.
I feel GM should start considering they have an issue with airbags especially if this happens with a "track ready" car.
Did i catch some air? yes like 99% of the people going over the little hill.
not a justification for this to happen.
Especially cause was my daily of wife and son.

you may want to consider to deactivate the airbags when on track.

well that is why I sold the camaro for the GT500.

Duuuuuuuuude... That sucks. How much do you think that'll be to fix? Were the 2 pillar airbags the only ones that popped, or did more do out of the camera view?

You mentioned disabling airbags, is this actually an option somewhere, or is this precisely what you're suggesting that GM offers, possibly via a system setting? If so, I suspect that might be a big liability issue for them, so I'd be shocked if they ever tried to address this issue this way.

Final question: You mention this not being the first time it's happened. How many other instances have you heard of so far? I'm hoping it's not too many.

I'm sure there isna fuse for airbag. But not sure which one is.
It happened many times. I know of at least 5 other people. On youtube u can find somenthing similar happening at buttonwillow ,or autocrossing ,or in the highway cause too loud car.

It just sucks

I'm not sure how your wife and son play into this situation. Sorry to hear about the car.

I'm not a track rat (and that's an understatement), but that drop and the landing looked rough to me. Finding a proper threshold across the gamut of all uses is probably very difficult, and the engineers may have erred on the side of caution.

Wonder if the C8's 'flying car mode' addresses this problem? It's not just Camaro...the C7 has it also.

Wow that’s was wild! I’ve run Thunderhill east many times and in the standard CCW direction. IMO, it’s uncommon to catch air on the bypass. Now if you are running CW, then it’s way more likely to catch air.

My point is, that doesn’t seem like tires lifted. And as such, I’m shocked the bags deployed. Seems like the sensor is too sensitive! Or maybe just too sensitive for the ZLE DSSV system?

I’m gonna do some YouTube searches. See if this is more a ZLE thing or all Camaros.

I haven’t found a standard a v6 or SS so far but definitely ZL1’s. I wonder why?

It was daily for my wife. The idea that hitting a curb can explode the airbag in the face of her or my son..is not nice. I got hit pretry bad with helmet.

That is a whyno let the car go

It is only one tire that lift over there. Rear right. I have a Mustang 2018 and i drive more or less the same laptime (1.54-55) .
Multiple cars do the exact same thing (there are very cool pics about it)
Unfortunately this is not a justification for GM. And their 2019 track car

I think it has something to do with steering angle at the time of touch down.

*Not my car but one of my favorite tracks* Grattan Raceway in Michigan with a passenger at 105mph.

You've got to pay to play. I get that the OP is disappointed he's out a few dollars for the repair, but time at the track is CLEARLY different than time spent on public roads. Stresses on suspensions, engines, tires, brakes, etc. - not including the potential for damage via driver error - are much greater. Most insurance policies don't also cover HPDE's or other on-track events, and will disclaim responsibility for a claim if it's later discovered the car was on-track at the time of the claim. Sure you can by track insurance, but it's priced to include the greater potential for claims related to on-track damage.
