I'll run a manual any day. I got an auto because shifting all the time sucks. Oh and I am a real man and know how to drive manuals, so nothing to prove here.

lol. ok. i enjoy my manual and im sure the auto is still somewhat fun to drive there is just no more awesome feeling than pulling into second and third gear with the no lift shift and feeling the car jump forwards with the snatch of each gear.

torque coverters have a stall rpm/speed this is basically the rpm/speed where they are supposed to reach 100% effciency of the trany and tranfer all power to the rear wheels. think of how you can gain rpm with you foot on the brake and then you hit a point where it just stops. that is the stall speed of you converter.

if you lauch to close to this point you can get tire spin because the motor is building torque and the converter is effient as it gets at that point. My annalogy to that is simply launching a stick at a higher rpm than you have grip for. If you lauch off idel your converter is not efficent at the that rpm. Be like rolling out of the hole at stoplight with a stick. you give up time. so it walking the line between the optimum point to launch the car where you got the best momentum vs no wheel spin.

that may be old news to some but I have met so many people that really don't undertand stall speed at all.
I stumbled upon this the other day actually. It's around 1500 or so I think, at least for a V6 anyway. I never really noticed it at the track because I don't tend to launch any higher than 1k. I have a good handle on how torque converters work and why people put in better ones with a higher stall, just never knew the rpms being held down under braking was because of the stall point. Now I know. Thanks!
