In the average family car, the TCU/ECU will try to get to the highest gear as possible as quickly as possible. For performance, that's the last thing to you want. You want the most appropriate gear to stay in the powerband, and you want to hold that gear as long as required. That will cost some mileage. Sure, you can hold the gear in manual mode, but the computer will be a lot quicker at choosing the right gear. Just my rambling 2 cents. |

The fuel economy number is probably just a misprint, or the regulations changing. |

Here's a summary of the model year 2016 - 2019 fuel economy data (see pic below). The raw data is available here: https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/download.shtml
It does look like the 2019 fuel economy shifted downward 3-4% compared to the 2016-18 data. I'm not aware of test procedure changes specific to 2019 that would impact the numbers, but I plan to look into this further. I did look at the Corvette fuel economy data between 2018 and 2019 and don't see a similar shift.

^^I doubt the 6m gear ratios have changed so that 4% difference is a little puzzling assuming the testing procedures are identical.

The gear ratios have not changed (at least not that I'm aware of), but the aerodynamic characteristics may be less favorable (ie. increased drag), which would impact the fuel economy numbers. The engine/trans calibration may also have changed, which could also impact the #s. It could also just be run to run variation. It is suspicious that the drop came in 2019 and didn't see much variation from 2016 - 18.

I think its Oxygen Starvation making the motor run rich.. ..the Oyxgen see's that front of a challenger knock off heading right for it - freaks out and goes and immediately dodges, going around the car.

Looks like we can conclude the new front end isn't as good as the old one

After I read this one, I think 19 Camaro could have more downforce that cause it get bad MPG, or it might have better MPG while driving.

It does matter- and is why I bought a V6 Camaro with automatic transmission and not an SS. And the V6 runs on regular gas too- it makes a difference to some of us like me who uses the car as an every day long distance commuter- and I got over 30 MPG in my RS.
But what is most important is hopefully it will be better than the outgoing A8, which has been problematic for some- and in my case so bad I got rid of the car after waiting 3 weeks for the dealership to attempt to fix it to no avail. It's too bad- I loved the car and had to get something else that I don't like as much but unfortunately will not buy GM again.
