Rear Differential Gear Oil?

I need to change the rear axle fluid in my 2023 ZL1. I looked in the manual to see what Chevy recommends but it just says See Your Dealer. What AC Delco gear oil should I use? If I have my local mechanic change it will it effect my warranty as long as I document it?

The 10-4034 AC Delco Limited slip gear oil is what I’ve used. You’ll need 2 qts, but it only takes about 1.5 to change it.

The ZL1 and 1LE electronic differential do not require limited slip oil or additive as the clutches are controlled by a separate ATF hydraulic circuit, that said it will not hurt anything. Mobil1, Redline, AMSOIL or AC Delco will get the job done.

use the correct GM fluid which is readily available and yes it has the proper limited slip friction modifier. It is an E-diff and the tranny fluid is used in the cooling circuit of the differential...definitely not for "hydraulics".

Look at the sticky at the top of the threads that says 500/1500 mile and beyond service.

I've used the oem fluid pictured above to do two oil changes so far (500/1500 miles). I would love to use a full synthetic fluid like Red Line, but I've read complaints about groaning and other diff noises when people use fluids other than oem. I understand the Delco fluid is not even synthetic, so I wonder what's so special about it?

A standard SS has a limited slip differential, the clutch pack is held under a static spring pressure at all times and the clutch will allow the axles to rotate at different rates after it overcomes the friction coefficient. Using a non limited slip oil can result in chatter and groaning as the discs drag during cornering, LSD additive makes the fluid slipperier and less likely to chatter . The E-Diff has computer controlled hydraulic circuit that controls the force on a clutch pack (looks like a motorcycle wet clutch), it can vary from 1 to 100% lock up according to driving conditions and sensor feedback, there is little to no friction on the clutches unless the BCM commands it so friction modifiers are not necessary. The OEM fluid is not a synthetic as you stated, not a bad thing but there are better oils out there. As stated using a LSD oil will cause no harm it is not necessary opening up more more options. A conventional LSD as equipped in the SS will not be harmed by a non LSD oil, the additive can be added if the diff experiences noise/chattering issues, products such as Redline and AMSOIL it is sold ā la carte as most LSD vehicles will respond fine to synthetic non LSD oil. My LE has 40K on it now and I've been using Mobil1 DELVAC 75W-90 synthetic to good effect.

This the Corvette but is pretty much how the E-Diff functions in our cars also. https://youtu.be/k1j6ZzWXRMw

It’s only 2 quarts, just stick with the factory stuff. The modifier is not a hinder in anyway if it doesn’t require it.

I've changed the diff' oil 3-times (at least than 4000-miles on the odometer), and used the leftover diff' oil to "flush" the old oil out (another Member posted this idea, which I liked and do). I've never had an issue with this oil, and with as stiff as my bars are, I've hung a rear tire off the ground, while stopped, and accelerated (not aggressively - just normally) into traffic, and the diff' grabbed normally and naturally, and there was no noise or anything like that. It just locked, and the car moved out.

I think Amsoil has a diff' fluid, too.

I ordered the gear oil that is recommended in this message, #88862624, from Amazon but received the one pictured below, #88865623. I tried looking it up online to see if it was correct for my car but couldn't find anything. On a couple sites it said THIS PART IN DISCONTINUED. Is this the same gear oil with an older part number?
Thanks, James

No. You got the wrong oil. Our cars call for 88862624.
