AFAIK its just an RPO code, just like z71 zl1 z06 1lt etc.? I may be wrong though.

That's what I thought as well, it went from a simple RPO code to an option package.

I tried to order it without AC and the sales manager laughed.
I really, really wanted a Grand National in high school. At the time, I found a few for 6k, too steep for a broke 11th grader. How I wish I had gotten my pops to give me a loan. I could have sold it for so much more today (granted, I would have likely spent a fortune modding it over the years). I just found out the Turbo T was the same thing, just lighter, like a year ago.

That was one of the reasons I ordered the Turbo T, it was lighter, plus you could get it in different colors and it had aluminum wheels versus the GN's steelies. Car was quick and back in the day would beat just about anything on the street except sport bikes.

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. Sure wish I still had my '69 Z/28.

30 years later the GN pulls more money than a Turbo T even though they made four times as many GN's. So rarity is not everything. People want a Grand National, they don't know or care what a Turbo T is at all.

I had mine for a little over 27 years and put 92,000 miles on it, garage kept. I ended up getting about $1000 less than I paid for it new, if it was a GN I would have made $2000-$3000.

GNX whole different story, there you would have easily doubled your money.

1LE is still the rpo code. Why do you say it isn't?

RPO is A1X for the v6, A1Y for the SS and A1Z for the ZL1... they're not using 1LE as the RPO anymore....

Nice pics, Perry. Were you in San Ramon back then?

I grew up in Lafayette! I'm just over the hill in Walnut Creek, now.
